Hi I am a student going to apply for universities next year.
I have done the sat's twice: 1st: 2030 2nd: 2150 (800M 700W 650V)
I have done the sat subject tests: Mandarin 800 Math 790 and Biology M 780

I live in Canada and I don't know what GPA I am at right now but I have straight A's all 90 and above and a 93% average for all my courses

I took 3 ap's mandarin (5) , Statistics (5), and Biology (5) this year, next year I will take Chemistry, phsycology, Calculus BC, and English Literature

Extra curriculars:
Bronze Cross Lifeguarding Certification
Standard First Aid with CPR-C/AED
School soccer, swim, and basketball team, awarded player of the game and MVP awards and most inspirational player awards (playing varsity basketball next year)
Duke of Edinburgh Award GOLD
American Math competition first in school
Canadian Music Competition (CMC) nationals - first prize (piano 14 years old)
Numerous canadian math competitions and 2 school winners in grade 8 and 9
Concert band (4 years)

Also, should I retake my SAT Reasoning test in october 2012 or is 2150 enough?
My goal is to get accepted into Stanford, Berkeley, NYU, Johns Hopkins, or Columbia
What are my chances????

Also, I am aiming for a pre-med or pre-dental program. I’m aiming to go sciences.

I am a bit of a pessimist, but here is an evaluation:

Pro’s
- international
+++ CMC nationals (was this in middle school? Some schools have a restriction saying “in the last 3/4 years,” “since the start of hs,” etc…)
- AP scores

Con’s
–SAT I score seems low for ivies.
– except for CMC, fairly weak generic EC’s

GPA was a bit vague- if you say above 90% for each one, and 93% overall, I would assume you have around a 3.9 UW GPA overall which is fair.

Retake your SATs.

NYU = yes
Rest = medium-low chance

Good luck.

Being an international student is definitely a disadvantage.

thanks alot!! CMC is for piano. I made it to the national round and gotten a 1st place it was in 2010 so two years ago. besides that I have been in countless smaller piano competitions and festivals as well.

also, I’ve already taken the sat’s twice, so say if i do it a third time and score 2250-2300, will that help at all?

yeah definitely retake them

I agree your SATs seem a bit low to be competitive in the ivies, however you have strong extracurriculars and the mandarin will really give you a boost if you are applying for a major in international relations, political science, etc.

Do you know your major?

im going into biological sciences and pre med

what about Duke university? what are my chances?
