My dream schools right now are brown and yale. my sister will be a freshman at yale in the fall, but other than that, i have no legacy.
My family moved here from Egypt 2 months before I was born. I am middle eastern and my first language is arabic, and it is the primary language i speak at home.
I am a sophomore and my gpa is 4.25. I am the only person in my grade to take 3 aps as a sophomore, everyone else took 1 or none, and 2 others took 2. i received 1 b in a non-ap class 1st semester sophomore year, but other than that i have had all A's and 2 A+s (although minuses and pluses dont change my gpa)
I took AP bio, AP calc BC, and AP world as a sophomore and got all 5's on ap tests. I took sat II bio-m and math II and got 800s on both
next year i am taking ap english, ap stats, ap psych, ap latin, ap us history, and ap chemistry. By the end of my senior year, i will have taken every ap offered on campus, with the exception of ap spanish, french, and studio art.
I also play tennis. our team is ranked 3rd in california. about 7 years ago we were 1 in the nation. I'll play all 4 years of high school.
I am a great writer and will have good, original essays most likely, as well as good teacher recs.
awards include: ap scholar, csf member, and presidential gold service award for 250+ community service hours in a year, and principals honor roll for 4.0+ gpa each semester.
I show aspiration in premedicine. I have taken in part 2 different programs, each 2 weeks long, one at ucla (NYLF) and one at UCI about medicine. both are very selective.
i also took 2 summer courses through john hopkins center for talented youth, honors chemistry and honors precalc with trig
Extracurriculars:
varsity tennis (9-12) team captain 10th grade
make-a-wish club (9-12) treasurer 10th grade, president 11th and 12th grade. club has over 60 members, and we raise $4,000+ annually

Human relations council (10-12) one of 4 on campus leadership groups Vice president (11) most likely president (12)
200+ hours volunteering at local hospital's junior auxiliary program of over 150 students. Committee chairman (10-11) Most likely president (11-12) won 5 awards for most hours, most dedicated candystriper, etc.
In a few months i will take part in research for about a year and will get my name published in a medical journal.
i live in southern california and go to a public school ranked top 300 in the nation. also, if i get all As next year i will have the highest gpa of my class.

As of now, your chances look pretty good. Is the 4.25 weighted? If so, what is your unweighted GPA? Other than that, make sure you have a very strong SAT/ACT. Based on your AP course load and the grades you have received so far, as well as your extra curriculars and leadership, it seems like you’re on the right track to make yourself competitive come admissions time.

Oh and i also plan on taking the sat in october or november. i am starting to prepare and on my first timed, real practice test i got a 2230 without any prep yet. I think I can get my score to be nearly perfect, around 2380ish hopefully. my sister is helping tutor me and she got a perfect score.

I’m kind of confused about what everyone considers “weighted” and “unweighted”. If my ap classes didnt give me a grade bump, my gpa would be 3.9 this year, but would hopefully increase next year. since i get 5 pts for every AP A instead of 4, my current gpa is 4.25

Assuming you do get above a 2300 on your SAT, then you should be in excellent shape. Just make sure you work hard in the upcoming year, if you can jump to first in your class, that will also help a lot. And don’t stress out about getting a perfect score… if you do, that’s great… but your grades and the courses they were received in are more important.

An unweighted GPA is not counting that grade bump from AP classes. In theory, you shouldn’t be able to have an unweighted GPA above 4 (assuming that you are using a scale that is out of 4, where a 4 is an A). A 3.9 GPA is still very, very good though.

“Ivys”? Nice.

You have an excellent chance at any school that you apply to . It will, as many others have said, be important for your to get good test scores. Other than that, write a killer essay and get good recommendations, and you’ll be fine.

You have solid stats. Keep up the work junior year. One thing you should know, however, is that NYLF is not selective. It accepts anyone who can afford its exorbitant fees.

I think all that you have left to do is get that SAT score, write a PERSONAL essay (from your excellent grades I assume that you are more than likely an excellent writer) and get good, heartfelt recommendations.
Oh, and of course, make sure you keep those good grades up Good job so far and keep up the good work.

To say that anyone has a good chance at Yale and Brown who does not have hook just shows that few do not understand what it takes today.

You will have an edge at Yale having a sibling currently enrolled when you apply. Speaking Arabic and bringing you family’s perspective is also a plus now.

Focus on getting good scores and developing a standout EC. If you can get recruited for tennis, which would be a hook, your chances multiply.

I can’t get recruited for tennis, but you a right Redroses. I don’t want anyone to tell me that I will get into those schools, because the top 10 schools can be completely unpredictable no matter what. I just want to know that I have somewhat of a chance and if having my sister being enrolled at Yale would be an advantage/disadvantage because, on paper, we are quite similar. What do you guys think of other schools, such as Berkeley, Duke, Georgetown, Northwestern, Cornell, etc.

bump?
