Chances at JHU pre-med

Hi all, I'm pretty new to this forum but was wondering if I have any shot at JHU pre-med. I know it is incredibly competitive

I'm a caucasion male and rising senior from a relatively competitive HS in MA. I don't have a alot of time to list my ECs, but I'd say they are average to slightly above average (aka 200 hours at a hospital, varisty cross-country, scouts, regional band, etc.)

My SATs (not my forte, but I will retake and do better):
690 math
620 verbal
740 writing
plan on taking math iic next year
chem 680 (but a 5 on the AP?!)
physics 730

3.99 gpa (uw) and 4/215 class rank
AP chemistry (5). I am taking bio, calc ab, physics b, and MAYBE calc bc next year
o yeah, I won the RPI medal and am a kodak young leader (lol)
What are my chances? If they are non-existent, please provide comments and/or alternative schools to consider which I have a better shot at.

anybody?somebody?bueller?

hey which highschool in massachusetts, i live in massachusetss too, ur GPA rocks ass, so i think ull get in, i think you should aim higher, not JHU something like darthmouth, or stanford, would suit you.

I hail from North Reading High School. Its pretty close to boston (about 15 miles north of the city), so technically I live on the north shore. Andover academy is literally right down the street where I live.

I originally hoped to go to an Ivy league school, but I really need a 2100 or better to even have a chace. JHU is one of the best pre-med schools out there. Plus being caucasion and male will only hinder my chances at top schools.

btw what town are you from? I know all kinds of people across the state from byfield to orange, MA. Its nice to see that there are other ppl from MA on CC. Go sox!!

JHU premed sucks unless ur a science genius. What I am saying is unless ur a nationally ranked science guy, you will settle for a 3.5 or less

Thanks for the advice cooltej16. I have heard similar statements from other ppl who have gone there. My main attraction to JHU is its medical school acceptance rate. My life dream is to become a doctor, but I don't think I have the stats for a 7-yr. accelerated med school program...can you suggest any other solid pre-med programs?

hey sanguine, im from sharon. What does north reading rank on the MCAS, or what are your avergage scores??

In 2004 I think we were around 40th, but I am unsure of the actual figure.

MCAS was probably the most ridiculous test I've ever taken. Unlimited time? I was considering leaving half of the test blank, but my parents overheard me talking about it and told me they would ground me if I didn't do exceedingly well. I think I ended up with a perfect math score and 2 points off a perfect reading score.

BTW I know Sharon HS. Our school hosts an annual acadec competition and sharon was there last year. Our team sucks because nobody cares, but sharon was nasty at math. I think it had 2 competitors who scored perfectly or close to 1000 on the math section, which is insanely cool

haha if u think the acadec has good ppl in math, check out our math team, we dominate! btw, when was the acadec comp when there were 2 perfect scores in math, like what month and year?

If the main reason for your interest in JHU is its med school acceptance rate, it wouldn't hurt to look at schools like Haverford and Brandeis. Brandeis's med school acceptance rate is 80%, and Haverford's is also something around there. Both schools can offer you a more personal undergraduate experience than JHU (not that Hopkins isn't a great place).
