EC:
Mock Trial: President (11-12), Best Attorney (x2), club never made it past Regional competition though…
Academic Games: VP (10), President (11-12), National Champion in a history event, top 3 for the event for 5 years (this club is my life but there aren’t that many places or states involved, so idk how valuable my awards are)
Key Club: VP (11-12), miscellaneous fundraisers and volunteering activities
Arts Club: random arts and crafts activities that are just fun; I love this club to unwind
Research Internship in Biochem Lab: summer before junior year, helped me realize I didn’t want to pursue a career in research and helped me decide to pursue my real passion: history
Digital Transcription Volunteer: transcribing historical documents for the Smithsonian/National Archives online for fun, transcribed/reviewed over 1000 pages
Other clubs (Science Olympiad, Mu Alpha Theta, Book Club, etc. but they aren’t very important to me and I don’t think I’ll mention them)

Rec letters: One of them should be very good because the teacher has a reputation for writing amazing rec letters and specifically asked to write mine, the other one will probs be kinda generic- the teacher knows me well but isn’t the greatest writer

JHU is my absolute top choice college! They have a dual program in International Studies and History which is my absolute ideal college program. So, do I have a chance at getting in?

Looks solid. I think you’d get in for sure ED if it’s truly your number one.

@Jsteez Thanks! I can’t apply ED though because my parents only make ~75k a year, so we need to see financial aid offers. Hopefully I still have a chance RD.

Also forgot to include my SAT II scores: Lit-800; USH-780; Bio-740

@Jsteez umm with an 11.5% acceptance rate i dont think its considered a match ED or not.

You’re a completive applicant. Your scores are obviously fine, quite fine. But your EC are a bit lacking. What is the “history event” you did? National History Day, National History Bee and International History Olympiad are good EC for a history major. Overall you have a good shot. Your essays will be very critical.

@dnstudent26 The history event was the Presidents competition in Academic Games. If you google AGLOA, you can find out more about it. I’ve placed in the top 10 for many years and have been the national champion. I have also placed highly in the other history event in Academic Games, World Events, but not quite as well. I wish I knew about those other events earlier! I did National History Day in middle school and got first place in my state in my category for multiple years, but I never pursued it in high school because I found the format too limiting.

I feel the same way about my ECs. I have basically been devoted to Academic Games since 3rd grade and it ate up a lot of my time, so I don’t have many activities to list.

@kassh4 ehhh early decision is around a 30% acceptance rate and her stats are definitely near the upper end of that pool. I’d be very surprised if she didn’t get in ED. RD is another story on the other hand but hopkins tends to love high test scores and i think her ECs are oriented toward her intended major in a way that shows true commitment. @NoodleDoodles just be sure to write a killer personal essay. I think hopkins really puts a lot of weight on personal statements/essays.

OP said she couldn’t apply ED due to financial aid reasons though.
