I’m 17 years old and just finished my junior year of high school.
I have a 4.14 gpa but I have very very low standardized test scores. I’ve never been good at multiple choice styled exams and so I’m afraid my admission to JHU will be completely rejected because of my scores.
I’ve only taken each exam once.

I am very passionate about cardiology and I’ll be participating in Camp Cardiac over the summer in GWU and I also volunteer in the coronary care unit of my local hospital.
Will my scores restrict me from being admitted to JHU?
@jarrett211 Is it possible that the other things on my application can provide as a compromise? I’m also a minority (Chinese-American)
@minnyxi I hate to say this as I am asian too but being being Chinese-American is not a minority in the college process. Being asian is probably the worst with being white closely after(not too much of a difference). URM or under represented minorities are those that are under represented in colleges such as black people, hispanics, native indians, etc(I might be missing some). So you won’t get any help there. I think that if you really want to get into John Hopkins you HAVE to get better test scores. They are extremely selective and value test scores more than many ivy league colleges. If you prepare right now in the summer, you can take the upcoming ACT/SAT and get a better score. I think your chances are about 0 with your current test scores. Your GPA, Test Scores, and EC’s are the most important with the first two arguably being more important. If you want a chance study now and get a good score. Best of Luck
@PetEngineer if I improve my ACT score to a 32, what will my chances look like? and is it possible to go up by 9 points on the ACT? I appreciate the honest feedback.
It is not about how much your score can go up because your score unprepared is honestly irrelevant. But yes it could definitwly go up to a 32 realistically. Here is the approach I would recommend, get a prep book, review the material the way it says, then take as many practice tests as possible, then just do good! The tests ARE NOT a measure of intelligence but a measure of work, if you do what I said then I believe you can do easily a 32. And that will increase your chances into jhu by so much I can’t even tell you. Good luck
