MAJOR: biology [w/ intention of going on to med school]

i know some of this is fluff stuff, but im putting it there for its 2 cents worth

chances please for Johns Hopkins? oh yes, i know UPenn is a reach w/ the scores and ecs i have now, but is there even a slight chance w/ an awesome essay?

Thanks again for your time! =]

em.

your PSATs make both Hopkins and Penn a reach. Your in range for Hopkins ED w/ >2000 SATs and in range for both Hopkins and Penn with >2100 SATs. Good Luck!

oh, i forgot to mention that the AP courses listed are all that are offered at my school excluding music theory. no science APs.

Your GPA seems pretty good; anything above a 3.85 UW should be sufficient for both JHU and UPenn. However, your PSAT score seems to be low for these places. The PSAT doesn't matter too much for admissions, though, so if you can boost your SAT score into the 2100+ range, you should be good to go.

Btw, since you are still a sophmore, you have plenty of time to prepare for the SATs. My advice to you (this worked for me) is to get the blue Collegeboard prep book (most other books have some errors here and there) and do 1 section a day for about a month or 2 prior to the actual test. That way, you can get plenty of practice in and your chances of making "stupid mistakes" will be greatly lowered. It might sound time-consuming, but practice is really the single BEST way to boost your score.

Chance me back?

If you can keep the 4.0, you need about a 2050 for Hopkins. The advice given on here is good. Keep in mind that Biology is probably the most competitive major at Hopkins, though, along with Chemistry. Everybody goes there with the idea of going to medical school someday.

Hey guys im really confused becuase i want to go to JHU, but what is the different between JHU and JHU ED and where is the medical school, like if i want to go to med school, which one do i got to becuase i heard that JHU doesnt have a med school. PLEASE HELP

ED is Early Decision, meaning you submit your application early if you think JHU is your 100% first choice. It you get in you HAVE to go there. You can only apply to one school ED. It is a "binding" acceptance. EA (early action) offered at some schools allows you to apply early, but its not binding and you can apply to multiple schools EA. RD is regular desicion, which is pretty self-explanatory.
O and JHU has a graduate medical school. You will apply to the undergraduate school. DOn't worry about med school just yet.
Good Luck!

Maybe I'll see you at Hopkins in two years (im applying this year)

It is definitely feasible to raise your PSAT score by a large amount. . .as a sophomore I got a 186, and as a junior I got a 221. It probably had to do with the fact that I'd already taken the SATs once by then. . .my final SAT score wasn't that much higher, though.

Dont be worried by your PSAT... i got a point or two higher than you on the PSAT and above a 2000 on the SAT... in my opinion, the PSAT means very little besides National Merit... if you study, I think that you could definitely get a 2000+ SAT score...
