Chances at Juniata?

Hey guys, I think I found a school that is good for me. it's in a very rural town (the main reason why I moved from NYC to PA anyway was to escape the noise).

I moved to 3 different schools (Freshman&Junior moved(NYC)->/Junior(NJ)/Senior year(PA)

My stats are: Highschool (all honors classes since Freshman year)
African-American Male 19 yrs old
3.5 Freshman GPA (unweighted)
2.8 Sophmore ( 3.2 w/o spanish) yeah I know.........spanish wasn't my thing. unweighted)
3.5 Junior (unweighted)
3.5 (Senior w/o electives- unweighted)
Honors Chem II - 96
Honors Pre-Calc - 90
Honors Physics (OMG I HATED THIS CLASS - 80%)
Honors Anatomy &Phys - 87
Honors English - 95%
National Merit Scholar
Freshman-Sophmore year: First Honors

End GPA: 3.9 weighted. They didn't give me an unwrighted. Probably around 3.4-3.5. And I didn't recieve a rank due to the fact that I was only at the school for senior year.

ECS(not impressive- since I was at so many schools):
Youth Councellor Junior Year
Choral Group- Junior Year
Tutor(Science and English)- Juinior Year
Work- Junior & Senior year IT technical troubleshooter/ computer maintenance.

Recommendations: Hard to get: I can probably get strong 1's from my Chem II teacher/English/Anatomy teachers

Sat: (Oh dear god, I screwed this up)
SAT Math: 450 Sat Verbal : 600

Enrolled in College now: ESU

12 credits first semester (this sucks- I applied in the spring late due to financial reasons and had to take what was available):
1) Intro to Psychology - A
2) Intro to public speaking- B
3) Music History - B
4) Intro to Philosophy: A
GPA: 3.5

Now taking: 17 credits
1) Bio I and Lat - 4 credits
2) Logic - 3
3) Intro to computer programming - 4
4) Spanish 2 - 3
5) English Comp - 3
EC: AASA (African American Student Alliance)

I plan on applying in the Spring 06. I am not sure how this works out though. The deadline for most spring admissions to most colleges is Dec 1. But you don't get your final grades from the fall semester of the college that you are currently attending until later. Can anyone clarify how my 2nd semester credits would be looked at in such a circumstance? Will they count towards admission consideration?"

I also write pretty well so I'm not worried about my essays.
My major is Biology with a minor in English.

What do you guys think of my chances?
By the way, I am really busy with school/work and do not wish to take the SAT's again. Are my scored going to hinder my chances greatly?

Thank you for reading

I think you have an excellent shot, since I'm here and all =p

Plus, you're a minority -- with a campus this uniform, you should have a nice leg up.

Anyway, I'd suggest giving the admissions office a call. They're really friendly (the nicest I dealt with) and will bend over backwards to help you out.

Funny how you want to come here and I want to get out!

Why do you want to get out may I ask?

I really did like the campus. I kind of like the middle-of-nowhereness (I'm in Bushkill for a reason ya know :P) And the fact that it has a good reputation for Biology.

If you don't mind me asking, what are your stats?

Hmm nevermind, I just read your stats ^^

I definately did not score near a 1400 as you did on the SAT........

Do you think I should retake the SAT"s before I apply there?

My stats are way above average for the school -- the average was around 1125-1150 for this year.

It's a great school for the sciences.

My reasons for getting out are that it was a fall back, my major is under-represented, and there's too much partying/drinking for my taste.

1) I am applying there as a bio major do u think my SATs will hurt (the math section) ?
2) Are there really like no black people on campus? I didn't see many on my visit, but it was a limited portion that I saw.
3) I dobut any school has more drinking and partying than ESU, so I could deal.

BTW

Yeah your stats are above average. My friend goes to Swarthmore and got accepted to Williams and your stats are above his.........and you have more ECs . White male as well.

Not much. They're seriously trying to recruit minority students, so I'm sure you'd have no problem. If you're still worried, call admissions. Really. They are amazingly nice and helpful

The campus is really white, but there are some black people and a bunch of international students. There's a black students group (I can't remember the name -- a lot of the clubs aren't what you'd expect them to be called), so there should be no problem networking from there.

Considering the stories I've heard of ESU, you should be fine.

And, I was rejected/wait-listed by both my match schools (Oberlin and Bryn Mawr), so damn your friend must have been lucky. but I wouldn't want to go to Swat and bump into my ex, haha.

Thanx for the reply Aika.

Actually, Swarthmore went more by his ECs and Essays. I mean it is prestigious, so of course grades do count. But as long as you can write, go for it. Swat doesn't offer many oppurtunities for transfers, but it's worth a shot. Try Hamilton as well. They accept 40% of well qualified transfers. And they are ranked higher than both Bryn (ok I always butcher the spelling) and Oberlin. www.hamilton.edu. Also, they have a stronger English/phil program.
