chances at kenyon?

i know i'm not too great but i had some medical issues sophomore year and got all Bs, junior(and hopefully senior) year all As. i'm a white girl from rural CT who wants to major in chemistry, if that helps. i know my gpa looks low but my school makes it very hard to get As and i'm still in the top 15% (probably 10% after 11th, but just barely) of my class.

i'm really interested in kenyon, i have an uncle who's an anthropology prof there and it looks amazing. anyway, feedback would be appriciated. =]

Kenyon's chemistry program is excellent. I was a molecular biology major, but I did take many chem classes for that. I knew lots of chem grads who went on to good graduate and medical schools. Also, the chemistry department has been adding profs with awesome research projects the past few years.

I would like to hear about your reasons for being a chem major, and what you would like to do with it (as will the admissions office).

If you haven't been to visit, do that ASAP, as it helps show you are serious and you can take a good look around. Also, you may be able to set up quick chats with chem profs through your uncle, or I can try to contact a few of them for you if need be.

i've always loved the sciences, and really want to either work at a pharmaceutical company or go on to med school. chemistry just makes me want to know everything. =P
do they only offer BAs? they don't say on their website so i'm assuming it is a BA. and i've always heard that those are worse compared to a BS to grad schools and employers. can you perhaps clear this up for me?

I think their website makes it clear that they only provide BA.
I have the same concerns with scutler.

A Kenyon degree will not fail you, even if it is a BA. I took all the science classes that my friends in grad school with a BS did, and in some cases more. Not to mention the chance to do research at Kenyon for all 4 years is amazing. I attend Wake Forest Medical School for a PhD, there is another Kenyon grad here in the MD program, and another in JD. We also have a biomedical physics postdoc from the Kenyon family. From the 4 years I was at Kenyon, I know graduates who are now in PhD, MD, or PhD/MD programs at Yale, Harvard, Berkeley, Stanford, U Penn, Wash U, Emory, Wisc-Madison, Michigan, Johns Hopkins, Cornell and many more excellent schools. Kenyon produces massive amounts of Goldwater Scholars which are a good indication of overall science program and student quality. Grad/med schools don't look at the BA or BS and decide to take you or not, they look at your classes, grades, test scores, LOR etc....I'm guessing biotech pharma does the same. I am most likely going into industry btw.
