chances at LACs

I am a junior this year from Missouri and I'd like to know my chances of getting into the following colleges/universities

Grinnell College (ed?)

St. Olaf College

Carleton College

Allegheny College

Colgate University

Lafayette College

College of Wooster

Reed College

Lewis & Clark College

Washington University in St. Louis

Saint Louis University (legacy applicant)

I know it's a long list but if you have any idea on any of them feel free to comment.

GPA: 3.7 uw/4.0w

ACT: Expecting 30/31

AP Class: Currently taking AP Environmental Science & Government, AP Lang next semester. Next year I will take AP Statistics, AP Biology or Chemistry, AP European History.

Extracirriculars: 3 years in marching band(clarinet), symphonic band, environmental club (won a national challenge), mu alpha theta, NHS, Rho Kappa, spent 3 hours/week tutoring at elementary school for a year, several other service/volunteer/leadership events,

Other: Almost fluent in French, if that matters at all.

Intended major: Physics

Class Rank: 70/344 ~20%

I’m going to bump thiss

Do some volunteering and work. As far as I know a lot of LAC’s like to see that. As long as you get a 30 or higher I think you’ll be fine. All of those colleges I’d consider a safeties or matches. Washington University in St. Louis is a reach. Show interest to the colleges by emailing admission counselors, visiting the colleges, or going through interviews. Don’t worry just do well on your ACT’s, or get a 1900+/1300+ on your SATs and you will be fine.

Grinnell College ED: match/high match

Carleton College: reach

Colgate University: low reach

Reed College: high match

Washington University in St. Louis: reach
the rest you’ll get into easily

what traits do Grinnell specifically look for (what’s most important to them)

If you’re almost fluent in French, take the SAT Subject this December and the AP this May so that you have the scores before the Fall. (SAT2 is CEF A2, AP is CEF B1 with a few questions at B2).
As of now:

 • Grinnell College (ed?) - within reach
 • St. Olaf College - match
 • Carleton College - reach
 • Allegheny College - safety
 • Colgate University - within reach
 • Lafayette College - within reach
 • College of Wooster - safety
 • Reed College - match
 • Lewis & Clark College - match
 • Washington University in St. Louis - reach
 • Saint Louis University (legacy applicant) - safety

I may also take the World History subject test, I did not take AP World but I was somehow able to correctly answer the majority of the practice questions, if that’s any indicator of my knowledge on the subject. French would take a bit more preparation not because I don’t understand what’s being said but it used some more advanced vocab words. How well do these tests help you get into colleges?

If you get 700+ on subject tests, it shows mastery and it really helps - even at colleges that don’t require them, provided they have holistic admission, like the schools on your list. A high score in the SAT2 foreign language test may also help you place out of the introductory sequence, therefore cutting the number of required language classes from 3 or 4 to 1 or 2. (Most colleges on your list will require you to reach B1 level in a foreign language).

It doesn’t have to be the listening one right? I would bomb that test, regardless of any amount of studying. My brain is unable to comprehend computers speaking French.

The listening test is in November, the other tests are just reading, vocabulary, and grammar. So if you take the test in December or in the Spring, you’re fine. :)

any other thoughts

Based on my knowledge of these schools I would say…

Grinnell College (ed?)- Match- particularly if you apply ED
St. Olaf College- Not sure, sorry
Carleton College- Reach
Allegheny College-low match
Colgate University- match
Lafayette College- match
College of Wooster- low match
Reed College- match
Lewis and Clark- low match

I don’t really know about the two St. Louis schools- sorry.

Chance me back?? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1567800-chances-these-lacs.html

what if I were to apply reed ED, what would that be

any ide ??
