What are my chances at Loomis and Chaffee? Im an African American, I got a 58 percentile on the SSAT.Do you think they will accept me if I have an excellent interview and excellent essays? And I got a 2020 for a score if you need to know that

SSAT scores are just one part of the equation. How your grades? Are you involved in any sports or ECs? Are you applying to more than one school, or just Loomis? Great interviews and essays will certainly help.

My D is applying to Loomis & Choate among multiple other schools that I suppose are on the same “tier.” My D is a straight A honor student at a jr. boarding school, a proctor, head ambassador, and a color officer among many other leadership roles at the school. Her interviews went extremely well. She received a few letters telling her she would be a great fit and had a wonderful personality and was just what they are looking for. We don’t know her SSAT scores yet, but she is not a teriffic standardized test taker. What are the chances of being accepted at these schools? We are not from the East coast which we think might be a plus (so we are told).

Your daughter sounds like a good candidate, esp for Loomis, but it is never a bad idea to include a wide array of schools in your search–not just top tier but also “lesser known, hidden gems” (as they are often called on CC.) The top tier schools are as competitive as the nation’s most selective colleges, and it is not uncommon for bright, kind, well-rounded kids to be rejected from most, if not all of the schools that they apply to. Depressing but true.

Thank you paobs12 for your reply. My daughter is applying to a wide range of schools including; Loomis, Choate, Brooks, Williston Northampton, St. Georges, Groton, Westminster and Lawrenceville. Her SSAT scores were not as high as she had hoped. As such she is retaking the test on Saturday. Interestingly enough, one of the math sections was her worst, yet her highest grade this term. Her teacher actually comments in her report card that she is a stellar geometry student. I’m hoping that all of her other assets will set off her SSAT score. I’m sure she will improve, but I don’t think she will score above 85%. I do know you are right. These schools receive hundreds of qualified applicants and somehow must choose among them. It shocks me when I read that some only apply to Exeter or Andover. Then again, some are very lucky…and qualified!

Hi everyone, I am applying to Choate and I am curious of my chances to get in as a day student. I’m currently in 8th grade, have all honor classes and straight A’s, play piano, study Mandarin Chinese as a second language outside of school, and I’m also on a recreational swim team. I will be entering Choate in 9th grade if I get accepted into the school.
