Hey i have a big dilemma on my hands. I really would love to get into both University of Wisconsin Madison and University of Michigan Ann Arbor. I just really wanted to know what you guys thought of my chances at these schools.

I live in Maryland and attend a competitive school thats like ranked amongst the best in the nation. I take all honors/AP's in fact, in my senior year im going to be taking 5 AP courses (6 periods of AP since AP Chem is dbl) and one honors course. I have a 3.48/4.0 unweighted GPA and a 4.3/5.0 weighted GPA. I took the new SAT and got a 2100, my verbal and math scores add up to 1410. My SAT II scores for Writing was 690, Math IIC was 740, and Bio E was 680. My ACT score was 28. I plan on retaking all of these tests again. I have a buncha extracurriculars, im in a orchestra, track team, ive won awards playing tennis and im ranked as a tennis player in the mid-atlantic. I have 260 community service hours and have served on many leadership councils and positions, i feel that i will have a good essay and good recommendations.

so are those two schools that i would really love to go to like outta my reach or do you guys think that i could make it in? or if there are any other schools out there that are like pretty top like second or first tier that u guys think i could make i would love to hear about them. haha i kno you guys must be sick of the phrase but really what are my chances at wisconsin-madison and michigan ann arbor? thanks a lot guys

Unweighted is low for both Michigan and Wisconsin. SAT is really solid. ECs are great. However, with the amount of APs/competition in your HS, I think you should consider them both matches. Literally... in a month you can start applying to both schools. Send in the applicants near the first day and you should be looking at two nice acceptances before leaves start falling (or whatever they do in Maryland)

heres the thing...is it better to apply early with the standardized scores that i already have? or should i apply in like mebe november when i have re-taken all the SAT, SAT II, ACT over again to get possibly better scores?

Your scores are great. I would forget about the ACT and submit SAT scores. Don't worry about your scores. I will be shocked if you don't get into Wisconsin. If A 3.48 is a good gpa for your high school, You will get into Michigan too.

dstark- several friends from the notoriously competitive Chicago suburbs didn't get into both UW or Michigan with 3.7s and 28s on their ACT, so I wouldn't be shocked, but I agree that he has a pretty good shot, especially at such a highly ranked HS

thats nice to hear...do you guys have any other ideas for schools that u think would be good matches for me? what do you guys think of my chances at case western?

Safety - U.C Irvine, UMCP, Boston University
Match - Wisconsin-Madison, Michigan- Ann Arbor, Case Western, U.C Davis
Reach - Duke, Northwestern, UCSD

tell me if u guys think any of the schools belong in a different category than they are already in....what do u guys think of me at UCSD also?

yea coornell is a reach, umich apply in septmeber, case is a safety because they accept a lot of people. Nwestern and Duke are true reach reaches. UCSD is just a reach. I think you have a great shot at Madison and Michigan if you really apply early -(rolling admissions).
