Chances at mid-level UCs?

Basically, I really want to try to get into UCI, UCD, UCSD, UCSB, and UCR, possibly for a Bio major, evenutally leading to med school?

Oh yea, I'm OOS... oh boy!

-Thing is I really screwed up my junior year, and basically, if i am using the UC GPA calculator correctly... my sophomore and junior year combine to a whopping 3.64

-Yea... i know... I take all honors/aps, but in junior year i got 3 c's, and a C in sophomore year. Thankfully next year i finally got my parents to let me drop latin, which was a source of C's every single year. And next year i should be getting A's in all my classes except maybe AP Calc, which will push my already awesome GPA to 3.71 if i get a B in calc... or a 3.76 if i somehow get an A.

-My test scores are ok...
-SAT 1: 710M, 710CR, 550W- i know, but im retaking in october and expect around a 650 for writing.
-SAT 2: 730USH, ~550-650 physics, ~550-650 Chem, ~650-800 Math 2C

ECs are pretty weak i think
-Orchestra every year
-Church stuff
-Jr. Sec, Sec, Pres
-Mission trip to peru in 9th grade
-Leading fundraising to help mission trips (approx $1000- for each trip)
-Music
-This summer, i'm gonna be volunteering/shadowing an orthopedic surgeon and dermatologist for a total of about 50-100 hours

-How are my chances looking? Be honest about it please. If you guys have any suggestions/constructive criticism/recommendations, feel free to tell me.

Lol. I'm kind of in the same boat as you (OOS) but with a little higher UC GPA (3.79).

I'd say UC Riverside is your only match considering UC looks more heavily on GPA than on test scores. -_-
The rest of UC's you've listed are reaches with UCSD a little higher reach than the others.

thanks xcellerator.
Would i have a somewhat decent shot, or would it be a very slim shot to get in?

Also, i cam upon this on UCI's site: About Us
Would it be helpful at all, to take a course ot two, to raise my GPA/ Do better in a class i got a C in?

TIA

On another thread (Sushifureak UC chances thread) with scattergrams from a typical CA public school (post 6). At the mid tier UCs, pretty much everyone with a 3.5 (unweighted) and a 1900 got in.

^ That's because they were in-state. -_-
The topic starter is out-of-state lol.

Aureonae -
You can't raise your GPA anymore I think because they only count your sophomore/junior years. Well maybe if you do summer school like right now and get better grades then yes.
You have an overall decent chance of getting in to the mid-tier UC's because not a lot of OOS'ers apply to them.
Just bring that writing score up to at least a 600 and you'll have an even greater chance. :)

Thanks again, Xcellerator

One more question about this, though...
Will those C's i got, be a serious downfall, other than dragging down my GPA?
Will it be a sort of double jeopardy, or does only total GPA count?

The UC's only cares mostly about your GPA with a little emphasis on standardized test scores/EC's.

So to answer your question, they can't really hurt you besides your GPA. Only the total GPA counts. :) And plus, you're taking some challenging/demanding classes, so it's all good. :)

You should be in at UCR and probably one mid tier. UCs use a point system, and grades and SATS are most important. Look around, Davis revealed their point system for the year 2002 or something.

sorry for resurrecting a dead thread, but i figured it'd be better to just re-use this one with the relevant info at the top...

-How will the UCs determine that my school's coursework quailify's for the a-g requirement, since i'm oos from PA?
-Will they qualify my AP/honors classes for honors credit?
