My counselor will address all of this in the letter.

I'm planning on applying to:

Vassar (ED II)
Middlebury
Wesleyan
Kenyon
Oberlin
Macalester
University of Texas - Austin
University of Vermont

I'm planning on studying History (with a focus in medieval and renaissance studies), and either music, philosophy, international studies, or political science as a minor.

Do I have any shot at these schools? Particularly Vassar? Oh, btw, i'm a 16 yr old male (1 yr ahead in school b/c i'm originally from England).

Also, since all of those schools minus UT and UVT are reaches, can someone suggest a few liberal arts schools in the northeast that are closer to matches for me? Also, suggestions for respected public schools (anywhere) are welcome as well.

Thanks :)

I really have no idea if i'm reaching too high or not!!! Help please!

retake the sat's...

Don't have time - I've already messed them up too many times. Vassar is obviously my first choice, and according to my friend (the ex-admissions officer), they just glance at the SAT to make sure you're in "the range," which I am. I'm taking the ACT this weekend.

Trust me though, every time I even think about my SAT score, I cringe. I realize that it sucks, and so does my GPA, but other than my leg, I have no one to blame but myself. I haven't exactly put forth all that much effort unfortunately. I'm trying to make up for it now, though.

FYI - the abbreviation for University of Vermont is UVM, not UVT. Doesn't make much sense to non-Vermonters.

Middlebury and Wesleyan will probably be harder to get into than Vassar; in addition to your SATs, you're unweighted GPA won't help you at these schools. Ditto for Kenyon, Oberlin & Macalester which do look better for you. You might also look at Hamilton, Bates, Connecticut College, Lafayette and Trinity. However, better options include Union, Skidmore, Dickinson, Gettysburg and Franklin & Marshall. Of your present list, UVM and UT look the best.

Also look at Allegheny College in PA - they do very well in Model UN. We visited this summer - very nice campus, atmosphere.

Could luck on your ACT and with Vasser ED.

look into Colby and Bowdoin maybe?

Check out Denison, Allegheny, and Dickinson.
