I spent the summer of my junior year researching RuO4 oxidations of organic compounds.
From what I've been told, I should get into the Cooper Union, but MIT may be a reach.

MIT is always a reach- you really can't count on it. gpa? ecs? rank?

Dude. I hope you know cooper union only accepts 100 kids a year and pay for their tuition. If u think u can get in no sweat, I think u are mistaken. Are you a urm?

my son got in at Cooper and your stats are a bit better. Cooper is all numbers and yours are very good.

I know, did your son have to write an essay? Their online application didnt have one. Whats an urm?

...and the funny part is, after visiting my son DID NOT want to go to Cooper at all. Since I had already paid the $50 application fee and he had already done part 1, I insisted that he finish part 2. He hates to write. He wrote one really good essay which related to his passion (surfing) and used that in various forms for most of his applications. For Cooper, like I said he did not want to go and instead of writing essays, he wrote a couple of lines answering each question.

He was accepted in spite of his lousy job on part II. This makes me think that Cooper really is just about the numbers and I think you are in. They probably go to those essays for the applicants who are on the fence. I am certain that my sons "essays" had nothing to do with his acceptance.

anything is possible. my bro got into mit with a 1410 and mediocre sat ii's. but then again he was president of school and like 10 clubs.

10 essays? It's been a while since I've done the application, but I thought it asked for short answers? At most, each of my answers were a paragraph long.

dmk: Dude, you MUST know more about college admissions than that. Just posting your scores? Wth? You do realize that they look at your grades, courses, activities, and awards, too, right?

yep,, my friend got 1600 on SAT and couldnt get into MIT,, he got 800 in SAT2 iic, physics, and 780 on chemistry,, he didnt have any activities,,not even a single sport..
he went to ucsb..
do you know cooper union is the best architecture school??

Go to the cooper union if you are going to major in either EE, chemE, Art, or Architecture. Those departments are fantastically challenging and consequently very rewarding at Cooper. Furthermore, these departments have (for the most part), the brightest, most talented students in the college.

I would say it's worth choosing cooper over MIT for the above mentioned majors.

The reputation amongst cooper union for mechE and CivE is that they're significantly more laid back and easier than EE,chemE. They're still good programs but Cooper is renowned / world-class (i.e. on par with MIT / Cal-tech / Berkeley) for ee,chemE,art, and architecture. The BSE / BE program at cooper sucks and is absolutely ridiculous (it's not even properly accredited).
