Chances at MIT, Caltech...

Asian american (Bangladeshi) Expected major is chemistry. I am currently a sophomore in high school. I go to a medium sized school in KS, not really competitive or anything. Our school offers only 5 AP classes, but I'm taking all of them at some point. I'll list my stats below.

ACT: 35 (32 E, 36M, 35 R, 35 S)
SAT II: 800 Math IIC, 770 Chemistry
GPA: 4.0 UW, 4.385 W
Rank: 1/~200
EC's: Research in Chemistry (published paper), 100 hours at local Salvation Army, 2 summers volunteering at the hospital, Key Club, Math Club, Scholars' Bowl (Captain and member of 2005 State Championship team), 2 year varsity tennis player, Philosophy Club, Co-founder of Historical Film Society, Member of library youth advisory committee, Spanish Club, National Honor Society (President)
Awards: 3rd in state Spanish I, 1st in state Spanish II, High scorer in Kansas on AMC 12, Member of 2005 State Scholars' Bowl Champion team, Numerous 1st place finishes in local math competitions

Expecting good essay and excellent teacher reccommendations.
Please evaluate my chances and feel free to suggest any other college you think I should apply to.
Thanks!

anyone have any thoughts?

That will give you as a good a chance as any mortal...of course we can't count the sons of bill gates, people who won national awards and URM...

i think you have great expectations and greet chances. do u like chemistry? i know a guy who got accepted to mit this year.
his math was 750 and chemistry 800 (sat2).he was an icho participant

bump....................

both caltech and mit are more numbers based that other selective colleges of the same caliber. this will work well for you, as your GPA, rank, and standardized testing are just about perfect.

Your outside accomplishments are phenomenal. However, it is harder to stand out in science and math. Are you involved in any social EC's? The handful that were rejected from top schools seemed to come across as caring for nothing but academics. Given your qualifications, if it comes across in your essays that you have a personality you should be fine.

Your location well help you, but I don't think Kansas is quite a "hook" state.

Overall, you have a great chance. But I think your accomplishments in science aren't enough to tip you in on its own, as Intel/Siemens finalists seem more impressive from my perspective. You have to show them that you are in fact a person who is more interpersonal than the avg math/science guy (but still BE YOURSELF...that's the most important thing)

I hope you feel I am not being hard on you, as you are extremely qualified and much more qualified than I am. However, MIT & Caltech are so tough to get into that there are people like you that are rejected. I was just trying to give you as much help as I can to help reduce the chances of such an event happening. Best of luck to you...you are brilliant. :)
