Chances at MIT, Cornell Engineering (I know, I know, you've seen it before...)

I'm also looking at other schools, RPI, Caltech, CMU, Duke, any other suggestions for strong engineering/sciences?

I'm a white female from NYC, going to very competitive public HS.

SAT I 2360: 790W, 780CR, 790M

SAT IIs 800 Physics, 780 Chinese, 790 Math IIc

GPA ~96.5/100, UW ...school doesn't rank, probably low end of top 10-15%, not sure how this will affect chances but I'm hoping schools understand that there's an insane amount of in-school competition at Stuy

Classes-- APs: Euro 5, US 5, Gov't 5, BC Calc 5, Multivariate calc & Diff. equations (next year, not technically AP, but harder than BC calc), Phys C Mech 5 E&M 4, Stats (self-study) 5, Bio 5, Psych 5

Most other classes are honors, will have taken 3 years of Chinese (only about 2 other non-Chinese kids in my class =P)

ECs: (when I say 12, I'm planning to continue next year)

Summer--9th: Theater program at local college for credit, 10th--Volunteer at local vet hospital, this summer--Carnegie Mellon arts program

Essays should be fairly good (at least, people tell me I'm quite a good writer, I've yet to be convinced =P), recs as well.

I'm hoping to major in aerospace or chemical engineering, or possibly physics.

Thanks!

Your chances are as good as anybody else. Excellent SAT score. Rank is pretty good (do you go to Stuyvesant or Bronx by any chance?). In senior year you should try to do something towards engineering, since it is your intended major. Have you won any contests as a clarinetist? The only thing you need is something that will maje you definitely stand out. Maybe a science project or something?

i used to live in the Bronx:) about 7 years

yup, Stuy

I might be taking a statics&dynamics class senior year, and yes I'm planning to do more related to engineering, I realize it doesn't seem like I've done that much related to it.

Thanks!

I forgot to mention it, not that it will help in the engineering department, but I've also been taking classes in ASL for 6 years, I'm working through interpreter levels now
