I want to go to MIT because I want to study physics. Although I love all sciences, I think physics is the most fascinating. I really enjoy being in a classroom listening to lectures during class and pushing myself to understand the material. At the beginning of my sophomore year, I wasn't very motivated, but I have changed over the course of the year and want to succeed.

What else should I do if aiming for MIT?
What colleges do you think sound like a good fit for me?
Do I have a chance at MIT? (I know it's probably out of reach, but I just want to know your opinion.)

It’s a little too early to tell. I do know that it might help you if you could look at taking up some extracurricular leadership positions towards the end of your junior year. Those would help your app out greatly. As for grades, what is important is your actual letter grades. What was your final letter grade for your classes beginning from freshman year? As for SATs, my biggest advice is to start studying this summer. I know it sounds early, but junior year is stressful (trust me, I just got through it!) If you can start studying vocab, for example, now, then it will make your life a whole lot easier when test day rolls around. Also, look into the ACT; if you like math and science (like I do), it might be your better test because those two subjects combined are 50% of your composite score. I got a 36 on both sections, so I was able to get a 35 composite overall. Lastly, I don’t know if your school offers it for you next year, but I would recommend taking AP Physics B (which is now called AP Physics 1 and 2) during your junior year if they do. You seem to really enjoy it. Best of luck!

Finally, a sophomore on this forum! Youre not the only one!

Okay, compared to a lot of the prestigious people on this forum, your resume and EC’s are a little subpar. First piece of advice: dont get intimidated by viewing others’ seemingly flawless applications on CC. keep in mind, people with excellent applications will be more willing to share Soo dont waste time worrying That being said, the person above knows what he/she is talking about. dont waste summer, get leadership positions, and find something you really like (maybe something Physics related, i dont know)

keep in mind, MIT is a reach school for just about everyone. so dont be counting on getting in and apply to a few safe/match schools. but keep up the good work
