My DD has applied EA at MIT. She has a 36 ACT 4.4 wgpa and 4.0 unweighted. 5 in AP calc AB, Bio 4 in physics and lit
She is an athlete, but not recruited so has not done Science Olympiad but is heavily involved in leadership positions. VP on Sr. Class, President of AFS, Treasurer of NHS, founding member of environmental science initiative and founding coach for a Special Olympics team. She also worked in a bio lab at the university. She is looking at Ocean Engineering or environmental, will her leadership help her in lieu of after school science clubs?
What are her SAT II subject test scores? MIT requires 2.
It’s hard to “chance” a student without more info.
She seems to be an academically competitive candidate. But MIT has an acceptance rate around 8% so every piece of the application is critical. Nobody here will ever see her LORs, her essays etc. so it really is impossible to chance.
She had 780 Math 2, and 790 Bio. My question was more of the non traditional STEM student, who did more leadership than science clubs.
MIT views application holistically. The AOs are not sitting there with a checklist. USAMO medalist. Check. Internationally ranked chess grandmaster. Check. Her ECs are her ECs at this point. As pointed out above, admissions is competitive for everybody. Good luck to her.
