Recommendations: I know several teachers at my school who like me and will probably write well about me.

-I'm also expecting to receive some school awards (2-3ish) by the end of this school year

Ok to be honest with you I think that you have a pretty good resume there and that MIT would be a low reach for you, about a a 65 percent chance of getting in. In fact my resume kinda looks like yours lol except you managed to make varsity tennis and I never did (went with hockey instead after I couldnt). But yeah def. Try and I’m sure you’ll be fine.

Although knowing your rank would have helped

I didn’t even look at your stats. Apply. I have seen every story: people with 2400s valedictorians get rejected, people with 2000s valedictorian get rejected, people with 2200s who aren’t even top 10% get accepted. asian, black, white, hispanic… etc. we can’t predict what admissions will do. Do your best, and good luck.

65% chance is a reach? a 65% chance seems pretty good.

@ salamisalem. my school doesn’t rank

Hi -

No one can accurately chance you for MIT on the basis of a collegeconfidential post. Even I can’t. And I’m an MIT Admissions Officer.

So (with all due respect to the CC community) don’t take anything that has been posted here as dispositive or definitive.

The only sure way to NOT get in to MIT is to NOT apply.

Good luck with us and elsewhere!

e: @selter01 said it best.

Yeah, I wouldn’t put the Young Republican thing on there, you guys are notorious ****** bags. Other than that, very good shot, best of luck.

@MIT Chris. Thanks

@saints2009 and clfdwlr -

We will not look negatively upon any political group (as long as you’re not the Hutaree I guess). Sure, Noam Chomsky worked at MIT…but David Koch, who ran against Reagan in 1980 from the right, has a cancer research center which bears his name.

No one would honestly deny that Cambridge is to the left of many places in the country, but we have a diverse array of political opinions, and I guarantee that no admissions officer on our staff would ding you (or accept you) on the basis of a PAC you were involved with. Not only would it be unprofessional, but frankly, ideological echo chambers don’t help anybody.
