Chances at my Dream School?

If you have time, please advise me on my chances at my dream school :D

I adore Brown!!!! It is by far my first choice and I’ll apply ED! I’m a Canadian/Czech citizen living in the Czech Republic for the last fourteen years, attending an international school and taking the IB diploma program [I’m a junior]. Our school is really rigorous and there’s none of that grade fluffing stuff. I think there’s like one or two people with a 4.0 GPA - the rest are below.

9thth Grade: GPA 3.6 [blah - does it matter that much since it was early in high school?]

10th Grade: GPA 3.8

11th Grade:
- IB Higher Level 20th Century History A+
- IB Higher Level English A
- IB Higher Level Theatre Arts A+
- IB Math Studies II B+
- IB Biology A-
- IB German 4/5 B+
- GPA 3.8
* This is a grade in progress I’m looking for straight As by the end of the year which I think is attainable if I work my butt off. If not straight A's i'll at least get one of the two B+'s up to an A.

EC’S + Service
- piano [my tenth year]
- Varsity Girls Soccer (probably captain next year)
- acted in most of the school plays - large roles.
- MUN in St. Petersburg, Russia
- Czech lessons
- Habitat for Humanity Poland, about 30 hours
- I worked with a Czech human rights foundation last year
- currently planning a career fair for our high school

I haven’t taken the SAT’s yet, but here are my PSAT scores:

Verbal: 78
Math: 54 [I know, absolutely terrible but I’m studying crazy hard to get up to a minimum of 650 and ideally a 700]
Writing: 61 [I’m not sure why this was so low but it should be able to get it up]

Recommendations: should be excellent
Essay: I will make sure it’s nothing less than excellent

Other Schools I’m considering:
Amherst
Bowdoin
Colby
Bates
McGill
Queens

I think you really need to try hard to get your SAT score up...judging by your PSAT you may have a little work to do, especially in math. If you could bring your overall score up to at least a 2000-2100, then I think you definately have a chance. Everything else looks really good.

Thanks for taking the time reply! My PSAT scores were definitely not great - except for verbal. Do you think a 640 in math would be ok if I got a 780 or 800 verbal?

I guess a 640 in math wouldn't hurt you too much...your total score (if you got the 800 and 780) would be over a 2200, which is really good.

It's worth a shot to apply. You have pretty much everything that it takes, but you can never really say about these Ivies.

The other schools you are considering look like Low-Reaches or Matches, which is good. I would say apply to Brown for sure, and then two or three other schools you are comfortable and sure about.

Thanks so much! It's really nice to get an honest opinion.

heh "none of that grade fluffing stuff" lol. the amherst video at college night scared me!!! but we are so both getting in.

Lol that video scared me too! But then I thought about it and i mean, they have to let someone in , haha. Omg it would be so cool if we both got in!!!!!!!!!!!! So is it your second choice or third choice? At the moment it's my second.

And it's totally true about the grade fluffing. I mean, i've seen some kids who say they have 4.9 GPA's .... i don't think that could happen at our school.

Yay!!! I'm so excited to apply next year!! Btw where does milky post? I couldn't find her?
