Chances at Northeastern University and other schools?

Hello there! I was hoping you guys could give me some opinions on my chances at any/all of my schools, particularly Northeastern. I plan to do engineering, so at the schools that have a separate College of Engineering, I'll apply to that. Northeastern and Tufts are my top choices. I have some concerns about Northeastern, though, because I think there are a number of other students at my school also applying.

Here are the schools I'm applying to:

Northeastern
Tufts
Columbia
Brown
MIT
University of Vermont

Here are my stats!

Student:

User Name: stressedsenior5
Caucasian female
College Class Year: 2015
High School: Public
High School Type: sends some grads to top schools

Academics:

GPA - Weighted: 96.90
Class Size: 120
I take all honors/AP/college-level classes. I took AP US History last year (got a 4 on the test) and am taking AP Physics and AP Calculus this year. I'm also taking Spanish 201 and Foundations of Human Behavior, college courses offered by Syracuse University. I get all As, except for the stray B here and there.

Scores:

SAT I Math: 660
SAT I Critical Reading: 770
SAT I Writing: 730
SAT II Math Level 2 (IIC): 640
SAT II Biology - M: 650
AP US History: 4

Overall SAT I score is 2160. I will be retaking the SAT Is and IIs.

Extracurriculars:

Significant Extracurriculars: I do massive amounts of lighting design in my school's theater, some of which is considered volunteer/community service. I also am a member of the Gay-Straight Alliance at my school, as well as the Yearbook Committee.
Leadership positions: Vice president of the theater tech club last year, president this year. Head lighting designer for both years. Also a member of the Student Senate.

Athletic Status - list sport and your level: Participated on the alpine ski team sophomore year? Wouldn't really count it though.

Volunteer/Service Work: Like I said, some of the lighting design is considered volunteer work.

Honors and Awards: National Merit Scholar Commended Student

College Summer programs: I had an internship in a wireless sensor network lab last summer at a university in my state.

Colleges of Interest:

Northeastern and Tufts are my top choices. I also plan to apply to Columbia, Brown, MIT, and the University of Vermont.

I might not apply to Columbia because I doubt I have much of a chance, and it's in NYC, which is a little far away. I'd like to stick to the very Northeast. I'm still looking for more safety schools too, so any suggestions would be appreciated! Possibly considering Wentworth because I love Boston, but not sure yet.

Desired College Characteristics:

Location type: Urban
Size: Medium (5,000 - 10,000), Large (10,000 - 18,000), Very Large (Over 18,000)

Area: East Coast
Importance of cost: Secondary

You look like a match for Tufts and I definitely think you can get into Northeastern. Columbia, Brown , MIT are kinda reaches but who knows? Write some good essays  and work on your SAT Math (esp if you want to do engineering!). Some other schools for safety (Other than Vermont, I think you’ll get in there), Check out University of Illinois - Urbana Champaign and/or Purdue University, Michigan’s also got a good engineering program!

Thanks!

I know Columbia, Brown, and MIT are reaches, but you can’t get in unless you apply! :stuck_out_tongue: I’m definitely going to work hard on my essays, and improving my math score is exactly why I’m retaking the SATs. I hate that it was so low…

Thanks for the suggestions on the safety schools! I plan to stay in the Northeast, though.

Ohhh, I thought there was a Northeastern-ly trend in your schools! And I’m sure you can bring up the math score! Good luck!!!

Any other thoughts? :/

I’d say in at UVermont but all the others are reaches due to low SAT 1 math score and very low SAT 2 scores.

Any others? I can use as much as I can get…
