I am in a bit of a situation. My GPA hasn't been the best due in part to depressin in sophmore and junior year. I come out of a solid and competitive college and take all Honors/Ap's and heres some more stats:

GPA: 3.0 (approx. sophmore year killed it)
WGPA: (not entirely sure as to how northeastern does this but should come out much higher)
ACT: waiting to take but expecting promising scores
SAT: 1200 (taking again to raise higher)
Class Rank: Top 25-30% (at a very competitive school that doesn't release the rank at all)
AP's: Ap Bio, AP US History, AP Computer Science, AP Calculus AB, AP Physics AB
(Everything else Honors)
Essay: Describes my overcoming depression in a more optimistic form. (stays away from the sad stuff)

Extracurricular:
Junior State of America
Web Design (did my schools Guidance Webpage myself)
Referee in soccer
Bag Boy at Country club (30 hours a week on top of AP course scheule)
freshmen soccer
volunteer at golf tournament
Summer visits of local engineering based companies
(some more stuff that I can't recollect at this time)

I'm also in the Project Lead the way Program and would like to mention that I have taken 3 engineering classes under this during high school. One of which was digital electronics and my school saw it as an ap course. My highschool courses are geared heavily towards engineering with this program and I'm taking AP Comp. Sci. as my second computer science class.

I plan on majoring in computer Engineering and have had such a mindset since freshmen year.

The whole depression factor substantially lowered my math grades in sophmore and the junior year shows rebound but I can secure a high B and or low A in Calc my senior year. Science grades have remained moderately strong to very strong throughout including the engineering clases.

With all that in mind do I stand any chance whatsoever at getting into Northeastern University. I have visited campus and emailed admissions etc. with high interest. Even attended engineering wednesday tour and met with professors and deans.

Do I stand a chance?

What about at other Engineering colleges such as RPI, WPI, RIT, etc.

It's worth a shot. Northeastern is hard to get into due to the great location, etc. The tech schools may be easier- many people don't want to go due to lack of social life and lack of options if they decide to switch majors. You could also consider a transitional plan- CC, post-grad year of high school, or less competitive college, then try to transfer into Northeastern in a year.

Higher SATs or a good ACT will definitely improve chances since current SATs are below the current average. They may also look more closely at GPA in jr yr than soph yr esp in light of the depression issue so a significant increase there should help as that is more reflective of how you will perform in college. Do you think GC or teacher rec's will also address the depression issue and indicate that you are a good student even in light of this, that might hold more weight than just discussing it in an essay since it is more objective. Also, if you do plan to apply, consider EA since this will also demonstrate interest.

Thanks for all the feedback. I am applyng Early Action to Northeastern.

Is there any chance for me at RPI or RIT?

Wow am I stressed on this. Also one of my reccomendations is from my Engineering and math teacher who first noticed my drastic change in mood and ultimately helped me through everything so I think the reccomendation will help a lot.

I think that you stand a chance. I also think that they will defer you, and look at your fall grades. That is okay, although you won't know until a later date. Applying EA will show early interst. Just don't count on getting in.

You should definitely look into WPI, RPI, and RIT. I do think that you stand a chance due to the improvement from Soph to Senior year, and the focus that you show on engineering. Please, do not give up whatever happens, even if you have to go to some other school for a semester or a year. However, I don't see that happening. I think that you will get into someplace decent. WPI is a good school, is well ranked, and has a good admit rate. You should apply. I'm not sure what RPI and RIT have as current admit rates (I have a master's from RPI). You could apply to Wentworth and UMass Lowell to have some safeties.

Yes, these ACT scores will help a lot. They show high ability in math and science. Since you have special circumstances, if they are inclined to let you in, but are a little worried, these scores will give them confidence. I would imagine that the math and science scores are high even compared to their incoming engineering majors. good job- I think that you definitely showed them something with these scores.
