Background: I’m a white female from Louisiana. I’m a senior at a not-very-good high school in the northern part of the state, and I come from a lower income bracket when compared to the people that attend Northwestern. I applied to Weinberg as an English major.
GPA: 3.82 UW/4.1 W
ACT: 32 (I’ve never taken the SAT or Subject Tests)
APs: APUSH (4), AP US Gov (4), AP Lang (5), AP Bio (3)
Senior Courses: 5 APs (Euro, Lit, Psych, Spanish Lang, and Music Theory)
Essays: Pretty good, not as specific as I would have liked them to be, but they definitely showed my personal voice and passion for the school
Letters of Rec: I did not read any of them, but I went to teachers who really liked me and have written great letters of rec for other people in the past, so I’m confident about them
ECs:
Debate (heavily involved, 4 years, cleared to elimination rounds at national tournaments, spent 3 weeks of my summer at debate camp the past 2 years)
Drama (4 years, heavily involved for 3)
History Bowl (3 years, qualified to national tournament the past 2, I was team captain last year but the team has a new sponsor who doesn’t do leadership positions so I can’t claim that anymore)
Coexist Club (I actually started this club last year and I’m still involved in coordinating/organizing meetings and events)
Beta Club (2 years)
Legislative Youth Advisory Council (I did this my junior year, only 3-4 students from each congressional district were selected)
National Honor Society (1 year)
International Thespian Society (Secretary, inducted my junior year)
Honors:
AP Scholar with Honor
Part of my school district’s gifted program, which is highly selective
Literary Rally (one student from each school in the state is selected to compete with other students in a certain subject, I went for Biology as a sophomore and I’m almost certainly going for Spanish this year)
Other:
Employed at a local Chinese restaurant (10-15 hours a week, depending)
I’m the oldest of 5 kids and live in a single parent household, so I have a lot of responsibility at home (I included that in my app, not sure if it was a good idea or not)
