Chances at Northwestern ED

I am going to be sending my application in a few days, and I just wanted to get some feedback on my chances.

I want to major in RTVF, so I have some things to show my interest and passion for film and video production:

I have made lots of videos with my friends just for fun, but I have also done videos professionally for a swimming pool company. They're currently using one on their website to advertise and they're also taking to trade shows, it's actually going to one in Las Vegas, which is the biggest pool trade show in the country. I also made an instructional/installation video for one of their products that will be packaged with it.

I went to a film camp at Point Park University over the summer.

3.5/3.86 GPA
Class Rank 100/590

AP english 11, 12 (no APs at my school before 11)
CHS web page design (11) CHS argument (12) CHS Stats (12) (college in high school)
Honors everything else

Just took them again the 9th, waiting to get my scores. I think math and writing should both go up a decent amount.

lacrosse (9,10) lettered in 10th
key club all 4 years
NHS (11,12)
Volunteer at food bank
Worked at Best Buy (10,11)
also spend a lot of time exercising, making videos, and doing work for others in my neighborhood

My brother is graduating from Northwestern this spring and my uncle went there too. I also have some pretty good letters of recommendation.

I know my.. well pretty much everything is a little weak for NU, but given that I do have some things to show related to video production, I have pretty good essays, my brother and uncle went there, and I'm applying ED, what do you think my chances are?

I definitely encourage you to apply but given your GPA, class rank, and SAT scores, you will not be as competitive as many other applicants at this highly selective schol. Your EC accomplishments and familial ties can only compensate so much for less-than-competitive stats.

Thanks for taking the time to reply, I guess I’ll just have to cross my fingers and see what happens now.

Well you might want to discuss other things than just how great you are on your app. You are going to be humbled in one way or another if you end up going to a school like that. Admissions staff want to see if you have life experiences outside of your high school that have humbled you a little or may have made you more mature. It takes maturity to finish college, especially at a school like that in a big city. They accept people they think will finish or graduate. Keep that in mind. Convince them that you have the ability to graduate. If you get rejected go to junior college, talk with an admissions counselor and ask them to write down everything you need to do in the next two years in order to get accepted. Have fun
