How good do you think my chances are at Northwestern (Early Decision) and/or UMich (in-state, Early Action)?

GPA: ~3.7 UW, 4.3 W (most rigorous courseload possible; 8 APs total)
ACT: 32
ECs: Varsity forensics (broadcasting), co-editor of yearbook, tennis, robotics, NHS
community service: lots. ~250 hrs total; president of/founded Haiti relief group at my school (plan to make trip)
work experience: babysitting, lifeguarding, summer engineering internship
essays: good. Haiti (CommonApp), and dual engineering/journalism (for Northwestern) interest; probably about being a female in the world of engineering and the potential of facing discrimination (for U of M)
rec letters: physics, math teachers, and yearbook advisor/forensics coach. good. counselor rec? who knows, she just came to our school this year.
will apply to engineering school (I'm a girl - potential hook there?)

Thanks in advance!

with those EC’s I dont see any reason why you wouldnt get into either school. Your stats are in the range… maybe a bit on the low side, but your EC’s will def make up for it.

Chance back?!

You’re in at University of Michigan. Northwestern ED is a possibility, but I can’t guarantee anything. They get more selective every year (which worries me).

I know! Actually, U of M has been deferring a ton of in-state people this year. This kid had a 34 ACT and decent everything else, and got deferred…

can’t really see you having any trouble getting into northwester, with there tuition rates there are usually less people who apply there than to U of I (illinois resident myself) which has much cheaper tuition rates than northwestern. best of luck!

I definitely think you have great chances at UMichigan. Great GPA and good ACT, and decent ECs. Northwestern is a tiny reach, but definitely still attainable!
Keep up the good work and best of luck to you!
thanks for chancing me!

I think you’re set for Umich! What stands out to me are your ECs and your letter of recs. definitely a common push to admission good luck!
chance me back?
