Schools:
Northwestern- Medill (ED) #1
Bosotn College
Boston University
NYU
Syracuse
Southern Methodist University
University of Texas- Austin
University of Miami
USC
Temple
PSU- Univ. Park
Northeastern
American
GWU
UNC-CH
Pepperdine
Cornell
Harvard
Yale

I know I have a lot of schools!!! Can you tell me my chances at them! These are the best schools for me! My school only offers 8 AP classes and I only took/am going to take 6. Is that ok? The other 2 are science ones and I hate Science! umm...I go to a public school in Pennsylvania. I might drop one of the AP classes (prob. calculus) and take another class or possibly do an independent study. IDK! I am also going to take an evening class at PSU-Schuylkill campus. IDK which one yet!! Umm I think thats it! Do the summer programs help??? Which school can give me the best education in journlaism and business/film/television/radio/political science/english/communications?? I obviously didnt decide on a double major yet but BROADCAST journalism is the one major I am 100% sure of!! Please tell me everything and anything I should know! Tell me if the schools on my list are safety/reach/math ect. Thanks a ton for your help! Hopefully: Northwestern 11'

Oh and here are some other facts:
White
Male
Upper Middle Class Family (NO FINANCIAL AID NEEDED :)
Both Parents went to College (PSU AND ELIZABETHTOWN)
AND I THINK THATS IT!!!!!!!

Oh yea!
WHITE
MALE
UPPER MIDDLE CLASS (no financial aid needed)
BOTH PARENTS ATTENDED COLLEGE (ELIZABETHTOWN AND PSU)
UMMM......THATS IT!!! :)

if your GPA is exellent, you are in.

I have no clue about your chances at Northwestern (sorry) but I guess I will be seeing you this summer at NHSI... haha, you're the first person I've seen that's not going to the theatre division (thank the lord).

wow you sound exactly like me...except your sats are MILES above mine, haha.

whats your gpa?

...oh an also, add UMaryland and UFlorida. They're kinda like penn state (which i see i your list) and have GREAT broadcast journalism programs. Especially florida. I went and looked at their facilities and they have like 3 TV studios or something. so awesome.

With your stats, I wouldn't look at UM and especially not at UF ... USC, Northwestern and Syracuse all have great journalism progams. Try to cut your list back a bit, though ... are all of those schools really necessary? I think you have a good shot at Northwestern ED.

Thanks for the replies....I know I have to cut the list back A LOT!! I will do so over the summer (and a fe right now) when I go visit these colleges! Thanks for the inputs! Anyone else...please give me more inputs!!! Thanks!

sat scores on the low side. doubt you will make it to a top 25

I disagree with aruubato. Your SATs are about average for the top colleges, although a little low for harvard, yale, princeton, etc. You should have a good shot at some of the lesser elite schools, but what is your GPA???

It's impossible to estimate your chances without an unweighted GPA, and a class rank would be helpful also.

ohh sorry!! umm ....GPA: 100% (My school has a weird system to calcualte GPA....we dont have the 4.0 scale!! :( Class Rank:10/240

Ohh and I

GPA: 100% (WE HAVE A VERY WEIRD CALCULATION TO FIGURE OUR GPA'S.......NO 4.O SCALE AT MY SCHOOL!!)

Class Rank: 10/255

And just so you all know (aruubato) I am not planning on applying to harvard, yale, cornell ect. I just wanted to see what people thought my chances at them were....but they dont have anything for my intended major so here is my list now:

Northwestern-Medill (ED) #1
Boston University
NYU
Syracuse
SMU
USC
UT
Univ. of Miami
GWU

Ohh and I know my SAT scores werent excellent but were way above average for all of my schools....for northwestern they could be a little higher....i am taking the SAT's in June to get that Reading score up which looks pretty good now onthe revie things at collegeboard....it looks like all my scores will go up!!!!!! yay! Here were my practice test scores:
Math-780
Writing- 800
CR- 700
I am so happy!

With current SAT scores:
Northwestern ED- over 50% chance
Boston U- safe match, around 80% chance
NYU- good match, a little over 50% chance
Syracuse- safe match, very high chance
SMU- My guess is safety, but I don't know much about it
USC- Safe match, around 70% chance
UT- I have no idea, confuses me for out of state...
Univ. of Miami- Safety
GWU- Safety

Obviously, if your scores go up that would help you a lot. Even if your scores don't go up, you could definately apply to some more competitive schools. I'd recommend adding a couple of schools that are slightly more difficult to get into than NYU and USC.

Brenny, its better to learn the truth sooner rather than later.
His sat scores are abysmal.

SAT II:
English Lit- 750 94 percentile
US History- 780 96 percentile
World History- 740 88 percentile
Math 1- 760 98 percentile (most colleges disregard this test)
Math 2- 700 56 percentile (This is the one that matters)
Biology- 710 76 percentile

Judging by these test scores, he is not bad at history and literature, but terrible at both science and math.

His literature score and history scores will be on the low-average side for the top 25, and those are the best he has.

2180 is probably good enough for the lower top 25, but his sat iis will hurt him. I doubt he would have a chance to HYPMS or any of the top 25.

aruubato, he posted his real college list and it does not include HYPMS. I agree that he has a very small chance at HYPMS, but in my opinion, he has a good chance at other top 25 schools.

w.t.f. arrubato..

uh ignore arrubato, i think your SAT II's are excellent. and you have six above 700! i think its obvious youre good in many subjects

your chances for northwestern are pretty good imo =)!

thanks so much y'all! Keep them coming! I need more help!!!!!!!!!!
