Chances at Notre Dame??? Dream School - Such a Help if You Could

Hey guys, I know you probably get this all the time from being on the actual Notre Dame message board, but I am a prospective student at Notre Dame applying regular decision (won't hear back for about a month); was just wondering if you guys could lend me your respected opinions on my chances there. This school has been my dream school since I was born, and I was just hoping you would be able to fill me in on my chances. Here are my stats:

SAT: 1370
GPA: 99.4
Rank: 10 of 312
4 AP Courses in High School (AP calc, AP bio, AP us history, AP euro history)
Over 15 honors courses (excelled in all of them)
Latin for four years (senior year independent study) - I always thought Notre Dame was a big fan of four years of a language, particularly Latin

2 Year Varsity letter Winner in Golf
4 Year Varsity Letter Winner in TEnnis
National Honor Society, Senior Leaders Group (10 students - council), Piano for 8 years,

Shadowed a doctor (ND Alum - letter of rec from him) for a week at his medical office.
He wrote a great letter of rec for me expressing his personal and professional relationship with me, talking about how I asked to shadow him on my own initiative and showed interest in the medical field

PRE MED MAJOR (I don't know if that helps considering what I am doing on my essays and letter of recs)

Essays - One about health care (want to grant universal access to health care - ND likes making a difference and I am also showing interest in my future field of study), and also an essay about what makes me different (ardent Catholic, fan my whole life, very large family (leadership roles), etc.)

I know my GPA and SAT's don't exactly set me apart too too much with the field applying to schools like ND, but I was hoping you guys could analyze what I wrote in my essays and my letter of recs and truly decipher if I am different from the next applicant at Notre Dame. This has been my dream school all my life and it wwill be the happiest day of my life if I have the privilege of reading that acceptance letter.

CHANCE ME PLEASE! WILL CHANCE BACK I PROMISE IF YOU NEED TO...JUST POST THE LINK....THANKS SO MUCH GUYS

nothin guys??? Just a simple chance based on the GPA and the SAT’s…i know the admissions counselors at ND can be wierd sometimes, but I need to know if I will get in there based on your valuable opinions. THANKS

i don’t see why not… you even have an alumni letter. nothing left to do but wait it out…

ya i know the suspense is killing me though. I appreciate the help though, any more opinions would be great. Thanks

Go to mychances dot net The site has a cool tool for predicting admission.

I think your stats are good. As far as ECs go, you only shadowed for one week- is it possible you could go back and do more? I just don’t know that that is enough to convince an admissions counselor that this doctor is so familiar with you to write his letter of recommendation; they can see through that stuff pretty easily (ie. is he a friend of your family, for instance?). Maybe you could even do some volunteer work in a hospital. Other than that I think you have a good shot.

Ya anyone think they can give me a percentage on my chances? Mychance.net gave me a 57.5% chance of getting in, but I don’t know exactly how accurate that is. Any thoughts???

Your GPA is high and your rank is fairly good. However, your SAT score is a little low compared to the averages lately. i’m confused by your second essay…catholic, fan, large family…you just described many of the students at ND. what was the question, just out of curiousity?

it seems you must have communicated your passion for the health field in your first essay. ND loves passionate students (and, as a side note, varsity athletes-it shows dedication) so if you sent that message efficiently, it’ll definitely help your chances.

I think the only thing that may be “hurting” you is the SAT score…it’s high, but below average for ND.

Just keep yourself busy for the next month. Try not to think about it too much. You’ve already sent everything in, and it’s out of your hands.

Good luck!

let us know what happens!

Jonoam, the question was “what sets you apart from most applicants” or something like that. I know on paper just from me describing it that it may seem a bit generic, but I think the overall nature of my essay conveys a sense of uniqueness that not every applicant has. I know most students have those traits, but I just really drove it home in my one essay.

For anyone else, I made it a reoccuring point in my essays and such that I am an ardent champion for universal health care and I plan on fighting for that cause in the future. I’m going into Premed in college, so do you think my drive for change helps my chances?? Thanks

I hope you get in, Notre Dame is soo awesome!

You stand a 60/40 chance in my opinion

Good luck

You know, after spending years at ND, I can honestly say that its useless to ask for chances because no one can actually give you any sort of an accurate answer.

There are people at ND with lower stats than you and people with higher stats.

ya I agree…anyone know if the economic situation is going to help me? from what I hear many colleges are accepting more people?? Any thoughtS??

any more opinions guys??? Thanks
