hey, i was wondering what my chances are at Notre Dame for next year. I go to a fairly competetive catholic prep school in NY. (an average sat a little over 1200 on the old, 1800 on the new, 99% of grads attend a 4 year college) I have around a 3.9 unweighted gpa. I will have 7 ap classes by graduation, 3 done by the end of this year. All my other classes are either honors or advanced, including 2 languages, spanish and ancient greek.

I have been playing the piano for 8 years and participate in the NYSSMA competitions. I am also on the yearbook, and am editor-in-chief of my school's newspaper.

The stats look good so far but it is hard to know much without knowing your class rank or at least an estimate of it. It is just hard to know what a 3.9 means at your school.

Your academics are almost identical to mine, although I was a little higher on the verbal section of the SAT (lower by 10 on the math, however). And 7 APs is what I had, along with Spanish and Latin.

Obviously, I got in, or I wouldn't be so receptive to posting this. I'd be busy burning ND stuff. Anywho, I think your best bet would be to write a good essay and make sure any and all ECs you're involved in show through as meaning a lot to you.

My SAT was 30 points higher MV and we have identical MVW scores. Your gpa is also higher. I think you should talk more about what ec's and activities you have done and what you have done in particular in these activities. EC's actually play a larger part in the admissions process than most people think.

Don't worry about it big dog i think youre in you were way better than mine. I went to a horrible high school, and i mean horrible my competition was about as competitve as Notre Dame football in bowl games in the past 10 years (ouch that hurts ND hasnt not won a bowl game in the past 10 years, UCLA won the sun bowl last year can i get an 8 clap). I'll give u my stats: 3.7 unweighted gpa, 1450 on old SAT the one out of 1600 740 on math 710 on verbal, good EC like sports and comm service. I just wrote my essay about some program i went to over the summer. I'll give u a little tip go to FTE.ORG the fte gillette company and try to apply for the summer economic programs it seemed like it helped me get into ND last year, but i chose UCLA. All u have to do is write a short essay but im not sure when the apps are due i think they're coming up pretty soon. All u need to pay is like 50 bucks and transportation to one of the sites across the country housing and food provided its a good deal. Hope this helps, but my best advice is dont worry about it i was in your position a few years ago its not worth all the stress believe me.

I don't see this as too trollish other than the last comment about applying to UCLA. I already challenged Bruin's post on another thread however. Bruin, you are welcome here but don't troll is all we ask; trust me, if you do it will just make your school look worse in the end. Overall, while I have some trouble following this post, I don't see it as being trollish.

I didnt push LA calm down, I gave him good insight on a program that I think helped me get into ND. I think red owes me an apology wouldnt u say irish68178? Comon I only mentioned UCLA as a joke look at my post it was honest and helpful. Someone just a little jealous about ND football? That's ok theres always next year irish. seriously though my point about the program and my school stats were honest

I don't think an apology is necessary; if you are offended by red that easily then perhaps the boards aren't the right place honestly.

Regardless of that I have no idea what you are talking about. Jealous about football? Jealous of whom? All I know is that we went to a BCS bowl last year and just got the number one recruit of the class of 2007 from of all places CALIFORNIA. I don't see anything to be jealous about. Honestly though, I don't undestand the point you are trying to make there.

I was trying to tell him to apply for that program i went to over the summer the fte one i thought it was beneficial for my application. And about football what was UCLA's record last season? 10-2. Notre Dames 9-3. And I think we did beat a ranked team Oklahoma and Northwestern were ranked last time I checked. And I believe Oklahoma won the Holiday Bowl. Talk to me when ND finally wins a bowl game and stops getting overhyped every year. The only reason they receive so much publicity is because the people who run ESPN are old enough to remember the "glory years" of ND football, wait twenty years and all the publicity will be about USC and Miami. And another stat I would like to point out UCLA's total team national championships is 97 (#1 in the country) and ND's is not even close. So im not very jealous. This post was directed solely to irish68178, but if any other Irish fans want to argue sports with me feel free. But back to the main point this kids chances at ND in 07 if youre reading this apply for that program I am talking about and u should be fine, then write about that program and the stuff it taught u how to think like an economist in your admission essay. If anything my talk of ND sports should continue to bump your post up to the top of the board. Good luck and you will be fine seydovi

I am not going to even start, but I did get a laugh. If you want to debate that, I am on the irishillustrated.com boards and my name is irish80122. Debate me on a football board but I think we will have some fun with that debate :). I look forward to it. Remember, we play you next year!

Yeah i know what would u like to debate. I can start with 97 national titles, then move on to the national title game we played in this year, then go to 3 NFL draft picks (Marcedes Lewis, Drew Olson, and Maurice Drew) then talk about all the other sports we own. I know everyone loves ND back there but u have to admit youre sports program is highly overrated, I remember you guys were on ESPN's who's #1 list for most overrated and you guys got #5 for ND football. That's not the same football team as 40 years ago. You better beat us next year, but remember UCLA sports is more than just 1 sport, ND puts all its weight on football and they havent even won a bowl game in over a decade hows that not overrated? Thats whats laughable

I just went to the Blue & Gold game at Notre Dame with a few friends and fell in love with it. I was wondering if anyone could tell me my chances? I should have my first SAT scores tomorrow, but my GPA is a 3.7, with 7 APs by next year as well. I'm extremely involved in extra-curriculars, I'll have 6 varsity letters by next year and possibly the soccer captain, I'm in student council, yearbook staff, odyssey of the mind, I've been a camp counselor for 2 years at a local week-long camp, I tutor freshmen in spanish and teach Sunday school on the weekends as well as lector at my church. I just got accepted into National Honor Society, which requires a ton of community service but I already have a lot completed from my participation in my church's youth group. My math grades over the years haven't been so great, which has made my class rank not as wonderful as it could be. I'm probably somewhere in the 7-10% of my class...But my high school is an extremely competitive New York public school...My dad is also an alumnus, but will that help me very much? Please get back to me, I am desperate to find out...I'll post my test scores tomorrow when I get them, but I'll take them again if I score less than 1400.

I forgot to mention that my grades as a freshman were well below the Notre Dame standard...I don't even want to post them, but my GPA this year has been nearly perfect, and I'm taking 3 APs. Will Notre Dame look at only the complete GPA, or will they notice the significant upward trend and reward me for that? I'm sorry I'm being so obsessive, but I've been wanting this information all weekend.
