Harvard
Princeton

also, I have a possible hook for ND, as a relative (not parent) is on the admissions committee for the ND Law School and is a well-respected lawyer in Chicago

Everything from UChicago down to Princeton is a significant reach. Your SAT isn’t terrible, but not great. I’d say getting to at least the mid-2200s (if not the 2300s) will make a noticeable difference.

Yeah my scores on the most recent SAT weren’t terrible, but I know I’m capable of an 800 on the writing if I brush up on my grammar and at least a 700 (hopefully more like a 740) on CR if I study. I’m also considering taking the ACT.

Thanks for all the replies. If I get my SAT up to say… 2340 (800 M & W 740 CR) do the schools besides Harvard, uchicago, MIT and Princeton become high matches/matches?

To respond to that last question: No. SLightly higher test scores won’t be a difference maker. However, incredible essays and letters of rec could make a large difference.

Now to chance you. Your academics are on par with these schools, and your ECs are fairly standard, if not below average, for most of these schools. There is nothing special about either.

Notre Dame- low reach
Vanderbilt- low reach
Duke- low reach/ reach
Emory- high match/ low reach
Wake Forest- high match/ low reach
Georgetown- low reach
University of Chicago- low reach/ reach
Columbia- reach
MIT- reach
Harvard- reach
Princeton- reach

“dna, Columbia is significantly harder to get into than Chicago. Until last year (when Chicago waived its application fee for an entire city), Duke was harder to get into than Chicago. So the answer to your question is ‘no’”

Definitely try to get your critical reading score up. Wake Forest, Georgetown, and Emory are decent; Duke is a low reach, as is Vanderbuilt. Your math SAT is promising for MIT, but try to get your overall up. Chicago is a reasonable reach. Columbia is definitely a reach. Harvard and Princeton are for you–just as for almost everyone–tough reaches.

To be perfectly honest, what might be the hardest for you to overcome is that you’re a white male from a seemingly reasonably “comfortable” family.
