I'm planning to visit some colleges this year but am starting to worry about my chances and whether or not it is worth it. Please let me know if you think I'd be a good match at Loyola Chicago (which I think is good) and especially Northwestern (which I plan to apply ED).

I hope to major in chemistry and then become a teacher.

I'm not really sure how the GPA on a 5 point scale works, but you seem pretty qualified for NU. The SAT II's will definitely help you, as your ACT's are a little low. I would also suggest taking the SAT. Your classes look great and your EC's are impressive. Good luck!! NU is getting really hard to get into, but you have as much of a shot as anyone else.

Are my ACT's a little low? My composite is a 31 and I'm still waiting for my second score, but on collegeboard it says that the middle 50% of NU have ACTs of 28-33. Should I still retake it in September in case my second score is not higher than a 31?

As for the ACT, I don't think this year's score ranges are available - this was an extremely competitive year for NU, with a surge in apps. So, I'm guessing that range will move higher.

ACTs at most colleges similar to NU fall in the same range I would suppose... but then again, for most schools on the East Coast, a lower percentage of people submit their ACT's.

You're really well qualified, but you might as well take the ACT again in September because you can only improve your scores right? Anyways you should stop worrying because you are looking pretty good for Northwestern right now.

Us Hist - 4
Calc AB - 4
Eng - 3 :( (I probably won't send this one in)

Anyways I'm still ranked first in my class and still am taking Chemistry SAT and the ACT this fall. Rank, straight A's, and my busy summer with work/school are keeping my head up. I do hope I get in.

Just to let you know... my brother got into Northwestern regular decision this year and was only ranked 13/249. His extracirricular activities + essays (in my opinion) were weak but his SAT score was nearly perfect (2320). I think you're more than fine especcially since you're applying to Northwestern ED.
