Chances at NU

I'm planning to visit some colleges this year but am starting to worry about my chances and whether or not it is worth it. Please let me know if you think I'd be a good match at Loyola Chicago (which I think is good) and especially Northwestern (which I plan to apply ED).

Thanks a lot

I'm not really sure how the GPA on a 5 point scale works, but you seem pretty qualified for NU. The SAT II's will definitely help you, as your ACT's are a little low. I would also suggest taking the SAT. Your classes look great and your EC's are impressive. Good luck!! NU is getting really hard to get into, but you have as much of a shot as anyone else.

5 = A
4 = B
3 = C
2 = D
1 = F

Are my ACT's a little low? My composite is a 31 and I'm still waiting for my second score, but on collegeboard it says that the middle 50% of NU have ACTs of 28-33. Should I still retake it in September in case my second score is not higher than a 31?

You certainly have a chance at NU.

As for the ACT, I don't think this year's score ranges are available - this was an extremely competitive year for NU, with a surge in apps. So, I'm guessing that range will move higher.

I heard about that increase in apps, too. I'm already nervous... I just hope I get accepted under ED

raise that act by maybe 2 points and you have a very good shot

In at Loyola. I think you have a good shot at NU if you are applying ED.

Try taking the SAT if you are having trouble with the ACT.

i think you definently have a good shot early decision NU. make sure you get a good chem satII grade

thanks a lot

just got new act results

Eng 34
Math 36
Read 28
Sci 27 (ouch ouch ouch ouch)
Essay 10
Comp 31 (again)

I'll take it again in September...

You should take note that NU's ACT scores tend to be higher than that for its peers on the East Coast.

ACTs at most colleges similar to NU fall in the same range I would suppose... but then again, for most schools on the East Coast, a lower percentage of people submit their ACT's.

You're really well qualified, but you might as well take the ACT again in September because you can only improve your scores right? Anyways you should stop worrying because you are looking pretty good for Northwestern right now.

I got my AP's.. all scores as predicted

Us Hist - 4
Calc AB - 4
Eng - 3 :( (I probably won't send this one in)

Anyways I'm still ranked first in my class and still am taking Chemistry SAT and the ACT this fall. Rank, straight A's, and my busy summer with work/school are keeping my head up. I do hope I get in.

Just to let you know... my brother got into Northwestern regular decision this year and was only ranked 13/249. His extracirricular activities + essays (in my opinion) were weak but his SAT score was nearly perfect (2320). I think you're more than fine especcially since you're applying to Northwestern ED.

"...I would also suggest taking the SAT."
I was going to say the exact same thing. 31's a good score. i mean it puts you in the middle 50% but nothing really makes you stand out. try the SAT and see if you do better on that. i got the same score as you on the ACT but my SAT score translated to a 33. good luck. chance me too!
