Chances at NYU and CMU

GPA- 3.7
Ive been taking all honors and AP classes since sophomore year. My biggest concern is that I have a C+ as a year grade in my JUNIOR YEAR. Will I ever get into college with that...?

SAT- 2010
Critical Reading- 560
Writing- 680
Math- 770

SATII
Math2C- 790
Math1C- 700
Physics- 630
Biology- 630

I will be applying as an undecided applicant to both NYU and CMU. Do I have ANY chance of getting in???

I chance back!!!

Well depends on what class you got a C+ in, and what your final grade is (nvm if that is your final grade). If it’s a class that’s pretty like… common, then yeah, it’ll hurt your chances. If there’s a reason why you had issues in the class, just get a letter of rec from your guidance counselour as well stating the issue and how you’ve still flourished nonetheless.

3.7 could be a 3.8… but no need to sweat over it. Don’t send Bio or Physics SAT II’s in. What you have atm, is somewhat good enough for an in at NYU. That is if you just forgot your EC’s, if you have none, ehh…

CMU you should have like a 2100ish SAT, and def. some leadership positions and a couple hundred hours of volunteering.
But yeah, if 3.7 includes your C+, I wouldn’t fuss over it too much.

I got the C+ in Bio(honors) as the final year grade, that’s why I took bio SATII to prove that Im not too bad at it but I didn’t get a good score. But do you think only Math2c and Math1c will be good enough for SAT 2s?

As for the EC’s
I’m going to be the captain of the fencing team next year and the first chair in orchestra. I play the violin. I’ve been in school clubs like Math Team, SADD, Environmental Club… but I don’t think they are that helpful for college.

Oh and I have volunteered at Camp Sunshine, which is a camp for children with disability. I have 200 hours from there.

Are my SATs good enought for NYU though? My reading score is only 560…

for cmu, it really depends on which school within the university you apply to. As always, their computer science program is very very selective, along with design, engineering and music. More relaxed programs at cmu include the humanities and the pure sciences.

You’ll want to get your SAT up to 2100 for both of those schools. Is that GPA unweighted? If so, it’s in the ballpark for both.

Both your GPA and SAT are below the line for NYU and CMU.
I’d put them as “low reaches.” for you.

to soze: NYU’s avg. GPA is 3.6, CMU’s is 3.62.

to asdf: if you can get those SATs up a little, or take the ACT and get in the 30’s, that would be best. Neither one is out of range.
