I'm only entering junior year, so there is still room for me to improve my grades etc.

NYU CAS is my dream school but I'm in the upper middle class so financial aid isn't on my side. My parents are able to contribute $70,000 total for all four years, and I'm expected to pay the rest. I'm planning to go to medical school so I need to take out as little loans as possible. Are there any NYU students out there in the same position as me? If yes, could you please tell me how you manage to pay for it? I'm planning on finding a part-time job during college and to work full time during breaks. I think I could make at least 3,000 dollars a month... is this realistic?

Is it realistic to think I can afford it and get accepted??
Thanks for your help!!

NYU will cost you about $240,000 for 4 years, which means you’ll have to pay $170,000 once you factor in what your parents will contribute. Although, unless it’s a case where your parents have the money but just aren’t willing to use it all, it sounds like you might get some financial aid. Don’t forget about scholarships, too. $3000 a month seems very ambitious for a part time job, but you could conceivably make that much for a full time summer job. Even so, you’ll still be significantly in debt.

In my humble opinion, I would actually advise against attending NYU for undergrad if you plan on going to medical school. There are definitely cheaper options (public schools) out there for equal, if not better, education. To be honest, NYU’s cost probably isn’t worth it if you’re going to face debt and aren’t going to the Stern and Tisch schools.

I’m sorry but I can’t give a great prediction yet as you have yet to take your SATs and receive those scores. NYU CAS is very numbers-based. They definitely factor in your SAT & GPA more than your ECs. If you have 2200+ SAT, chances are you will get a very decent scholarship for NYU, and thus will be able to afford it. By the way, you did not mention whether or not you are going to dorm, as that will be an extra expense.
