Chances at NYU? CAS?

I'm a middle class, caucasian male residing in Texas. My horrid GPA worries me the most, though I have taken the most rigorous curriculum my school has to offer. I'm positive I'll have great recs and hopefully a brilliant essay. Any input regarding my chances of being accepted at NYU (CAS - Journalism major) is highly appreciated.

Extra Curriculars: >200 hours of community service

I hope that's enough information.

I think you have a good chance of getting in despite the GPA. your SAT scores are amazing!! good luck affording the tuitiion, hah jk.

but yes try to pull up the GPA but i think you have a good shot @ it.

Thanks, I hope immensely that I'm accepted. I'll do what I can to bring up that beast of a GPA.

Nikki - I saw you in the '08 applicants thread. How do you think you'll fare at getting into NYU? And what school and major are you considering?

i think you will be okay. NYU admissions is huge on numbers, and it will be hard for them to turn down SATs like that. at worst, in my opinion, you would get GSP for your GPA.

let me know if you have any journalism questions as i am a current major, and good luck with admissions!

Well, NYU has been my dream school, until i saw the ~$50,000 fee (for everything combined, tuition+room+books, etc.) per year and so yeah, even if im accepted im not paying that much to go there.

but still, its been my dream school so im gonna apply there like a nerd x] but yeah thats the sad story of my life lol. i wanna major in bio/pre-med. dk which school that is (lol im pathetic)

Your awesome SAT offsets your GPA, which I'm guessing is low b/c you had a rough courseload. After all, your rank is 13/180, so how bad could your GPA be? My SAT score was ~300 points lower than yours and I got in, so I'd say you don't have to worry that much about getting accepted.
