Are they both ED? I don't suppose one has ED I and ED II, does it?

@ohio_mom, that's the problem, most top tier schools sans some like vandy/emory/cmu all only have one ed... sigh

So what's my move? Perhaps it will be a bit more clear when I have more SAT/SATII/AP scores out.

aignam,
It might be time to get a coin out. If you really love Columbia, their ED admit rate is a lot better - 26% as opposed to 11% ED. NYU is 48%/32%, and with the alumni hook not getting in would be bizzarre. I think you need another match school that you like, so if Columbia RD and NYU RD both go awry you are in better shape.

cujoe,
bowdoin and carleton both (think) do ED II. If you know your favorite school, and finances are ok, ED is certainly the way to go.

I think you should try Columbia and have others in the wings too of course. I'm a parent, but my son and I have seen many students the last couple of years, post that they got in Columbia with old SAT scores in the 1200-1390 range. (one even lower!) Not all were URM's and one even said he/she didn't know why they got in.They must of liked something they saw. And that is just the few people that post. I've seen this at other good colleges too. You never know and it doesn't hurt to try. This site has a lot of good ideas from students and parents, but no one really knows everything.

:-/ what a tough decision. I guess I'll just have to size things up when I get back all of my standardized test scores and my GPA levels off.

ya, columbia rejected so many 1550+'s on the board, but lots of 1400's were accepted... weird huh?

If you compare the MIT and Caltech results from this year, it's pretty interesting, too. Caltech really cares about stats. MIT is looking for something different that we don't see reading stats. Start those essays early, kids. That is your chance to really speak to your admissions committee.

Wait, so do AP scores affect admission? I'm taking 11 this year, along with 3 from the previous years. I should have about 10-11 5s(already have 3 from the previous tests). And I'm gunning for AP Scholar of the State and National AP Scholar. Will my scores help me get in?
