I'm aiming for a Biology major and my career goal is dentistry/ortho or medicine.

I live in Brooklyn, NYC and go to an average HS. I'm Russian and a highly non-orthodox & non-practicing Jew.

What shot do I have at NYU/Columbia and would ED increase my chances? If so, which school should I pick?

I was thinking of perhaps going to a SUNY and then a dental/med school - it'd save me so much money, but I'm not sure if it'll hurt me in any way when I do apply for a dental/med school.

a shot at both schools
columbia 80% target 20% match
NYU good match if you get 2100 on SAT, current SAT raised to a 2000 at least and youre good

Well you would probably have a better shot if you got 2200 or so but right now, the SAT score is just not cutting it. It would be a reach even then but now its just too much of a reach!

Columbia is going to be a reach especially coming from NYC where your will be in the same pool as stuyvesant, bx science, tech, townsend harris and the other elite high schools where students will have stronger scores, gpa and cirriculums. YOU would most likely get into NYU (more of a reach for tisch or stern). but because you won't be at the top of the applicant pool you should not expect a lot of money

"2100 is good for NYU, but you have to have the GPA, courses, ECs, essays, and recs too let's not forget"

But I do have the GPA - all my coursework is Honors, so I'm sure they take that into consideration. I think I have a pretty strong amount of EC's without coming off as somebody that spends all day in school, and the essay - well, working on that. What are recs, recreational activities like sports..?

Tisch or Stern would be more of a reach because of the specialities that tisch offers in the arts and has a lot of applicants for fewer spots. Stern overall has a more competitive pool than CAS.
