Im a male from Venezuela(hispanic) and moved to the US at age 13. I am a 17yr old senior at a very good public school in Florida (i am a florida resident) and i was wondering if u guys could rate my chances of getting into the following schools:

huh, you did a lot of stuff, immigrant stuff will help, but im not going to lie, those SATs are not in range at all. if you can bring em up you can have a reach chance at pretty much everywhere, otherwise id say keep shopping, have you consider some not so famous schools, (1280 is kind of low for a top 50 school)

thanls for replying...

can u tell me which one of those universities u thing are matches, reaches ect for me please!!

thanks

i also forgot to mention that my father did not go to college, while my mom went to a not so good university in Venezuela...

also u guys Uf is one of my first choices...do u guys think i would be accepted in regular decision or should i apply early decision????/

id greatly appreciate it if u guys would respond, thanks

Hey, I'm from venezuela too! I don't know about the other schools, but I'm pretty sure BU is considered a match for you, although your verbal is bit low. When you retake, try to focus on the CR to balance out the math. If you can get just fifty points higher, that's a 1330.

hey spookyalien thats pretty cool, what part of venezauela r u from?

anyways, what do u think r my chances for the other schools?? especially UF??

I was born in Valencia, but I haven't been there in something like six years. It's crazy. What part are you from?
Anyway, I know very little about UF (and granted, about any other school-I'm just an applicant too) but just based on stats and the fact that you're in state, I'd say UF is a very low match, almost a safety. Maybe someone with a bit more experience can add more comments, since I don't want to tell you its a safety and have it not be that way.

i am form caracas...but i have been there many times since i left
anyways thanks for the comments!

can anyone else please rate my chances of getting into the schools that i am applying to or give any suggestions about things i should do to increase my chances (other than to take the SAT's again)?

UF is is much more concerned with GPA and difficulty of schedule, and you are fine on those counts. SATs matter to a lesser degree, and even there, a 1280 is near the admit average, so I think you are a solid candidate.

thanks for replying...anyways, do you think i should apply early decision or regular decision???

also...what do you think are my chances for the pther universities???

I think you could get into UF regular decision because you havea good gpa and schedule, you are venezuelan, and that you live in Florida. But if you know that it where you want to go, by all means apply ED.

I know someone from Caracas.... but I've never been there.

thanks for replying...anyways is it easier to get into a university when u apply early decision or when u apply for the summer term?

also, what do you think are my chances for the other schools?

anyone else please?!

wow im looking to apply to all the same colleges as u. due to the low SAT, i thikn ull have some trouble. how good of a school is NYU? im only considering applying there since its in the heart of new york :).

if i was you i would only consider applying there if you would like to live in a city setting since it is in the heart of new york....but if you prefer a campus-sort of life than you shouldnt even apply there

could anyone else comment please!

U of Fl counts the GPA/class rank as 50% of the decision, with essay and EC's next. They say that the SAT or ACT count last. Recommendations (except for GC, which is important since it reports whether you were suspended for cheating, and other such areas) are not considered.

As a Fl resident in the top 10% of your class, you stand an excellent chance of getting in, ED or RD. But since housing is not guaranteed, they suggest the earlierl the better.

I suggest that for U of Fl, you apply either ED or early regular. ED has an application deadline of Oct 3. Early regular is another way of saying early action. It's not binding, and you hear back in Feb (I think they said Feb). Early regular has a 10/17 deadline.

1280 is a bit low for GW and BU to be matches/reaches. But GW particularly looks at class rank very seriously, so that bumps up your chances there.

I think NYU is a reach.
Good luck.
