Chances at NYU Stern

I'm currently at a community college and I'm looking for some advice to transfer to a top B-school. I'm just starting my sophmore year...

-Stats: 3.99 (14 solid A's and 1 A-)
-SAT 2: 2140 (I took it at the beginning of my freshmen year because I didn't take it in high school)
-I've volunteered more than 600 hours over the last year at the American Red Cross and I'm hoping to hit 1,000 by the time I apply
-Of the only 2 business clubs offered at my school, I'm the VP of the international business club and the Pres of the business club.
-I'll have GREAT recs from at least 2 of my professors.
-I've also been a tutor for micro/macro economics classes at my school

Now here's my problem, in high school I had a 2.3 GPA. I NEVER tried and never came to class but now I'm doing EVERYTHING I can to make up for that. ANY suggestions to improve my chances and cover up my high school transcript more would be VERY appreciated.

I'm a senior in high school and my friend went to community college, and he had 3.95GPA with 2050 on SAT. He also had about 1000 hrs of community service!! He got admitted, I think your stats is fine, but your high school gpa is a bit low!

Hi Jake it looks like you have a pretty good chance but SAT's taken after high school are not considered according to the NYU website.

Wait, SAT does not matter in NYU ?

According to the website they do not take in to account SAT's taken after high school. They do consider SAT scores taken while in high school.

I e-mailed Stern and this is the response I got... "According to the information provided by NYU admissions, you only need
to have taken the SATs or ACTs and it does not matter when you took the
test(s). For more information about admissions to NYU and Stern,
please visit http://admissions.nyu.edu. Any questions can be address
to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at 212-998-4500"

Thanks for the response guys! You've boosted my confidence. I thought for sure I was doomed do to my high school GPA.

dude i think you'll get in man; like you got 600 hours of community service that's going to be 1000, all As, that's crazzy man haha

i don't think your high school grades will really matter, since you're applying as a transfer student.

This is from the NYU admissions forum and website:

"If you took the SAT I, SAT II or ACT exams when in high school, you should have your official test scores sent directly to NYU from the testing agencies. However, if you are currently in college and have completed at least one full year of course work (roughly 30-32 credit hours)you should not retake the SAT's or take them now for the first time. We will not consider standardized test scores from exams you took while already enrolled in college.

However, if you did not take the standardized tests while enrolled in high school and have not yet completed one full-year of college course work you SHOULD make arrangements to participate in standardized testing and have your exam results released to NYU."

I guess if you are planning on transfering as a sophmore you should take them but if you are transfering as a junior they will not help you.

Interesting. I'll still submit mine. Surely it can't hurt me. Nice stats BTW, Sweetny007. Good luck to you as well. Does anyone go to NYU by chance? Thanks man, I hope they won't matter. A counselor at my school told me they wouldn't, but he also told me not to do any extracurricular activities and I knew that couldn't be right. So I wasn't sure what to believe.

Actually when I reread the info from their website it sounds like your test scores will count because you took them before you had 30 credits. Anyway I do think you have a great chance! Thank you :)

Haha some counselors ...

Does it improve your chances if you don't need any financial aid or student loans and you can pay the full tuition up front?
