Hey all, I'm an asian living in california. GPA: 3.7 UW, 3.9 W. SAT I: 1940, SAT II: Math IC - 720, Chinese - 800. Lots of extracurr. (student body treasurer, varsity cross country and track, spanish club president, etc.) I care more about getting into NYU then getting into the majors I want. What is my chance of getting in, and what should I apply as my major so that my chances of getting in is higher? (I prefer Stern School of Business, but I know that is really hard to get into!)

i don't understand.. do you want to go into business or communications?

you shouldn't base which school you apply to in terms of selectivity.. they are two different schools and you should pick the school your major will be in. besides, its not always easy to internally transfer within a college.

I like both business and communications, but I do realize Stern is extremely hard to get into, that's why I'm going with communications. Is Steinhardt hard to get into?

another thing to note is that if nyu doesnt place you into your first choice school (all except for tisch school of the arts) then they can place you in general studies for two years, and then you can transfer to another school and complete it in four, because in general studies, you get all the gen ed classes out of the way.

They don't care what major you choose, it's based on what internal school at NYU you apply to. You need to have atleast an idea of your major to apply to an appropriate internal school, or else you'll need to reapply to switch later on.

i would go undeclared unless you have a clear interest. from what ive heard from friends and my brother who's an alum, it doesnt matter tremendously what major you declare in the app.

also, i have to say that general studies (GSP) is not worth the money. you might as well go to another school.

also, make sure you know what school you are applying to, and know what you specifically need to do...like for tisch(as i am a tischie) there is an artistic review based on your personal major (film, theater, dance) and i know that for the music in steinhardt there's an academic review before your audition...so you should research all that you need to do.

I have a gpa of 3.5...with a 1970 SAT. But I want to go to Steinhardt for Music...I already had my audition (I did the early audition with regular decision), and I'm not sure how I did, so don't even ask about that one...so? What are my chances? Should I just let it go and prepare for SUNY Potsdam?
