Chances at Olin and UW-Seattle?

Hi,

I'm almost a senior now and I've narrowed my list down to two schools (!) Deep down, I really just want to go to Olin. I love the "different" teaching style, the size, the location, the people... I feel like it's perfect, but I was curious is anything I could do to improve my chances at going there. I'm open to any and all suggestions!

** The Basics **
-White female from Seattle area
-GPA: 3.9 (College) 3.7 (High school, but upward trend ;))
-Test scores: Retaking ACT tomorrow, currently have a 29 :(
-Recs: Expecting to be very good. I get along really well with my professors because they're awesome and I think they realize I work hard
-Essays: Hopefully good, I had a lot of cool experiences in life but not super good at writing
-Major: Engineering (either Aerospace, Mechanical, or Physics)

** Courseload **
I'm in a dual enrollment program, which I really like because I get to take some really cool classes!
Junior Year (Quarter-Long Classes)
-Calculus 1 (Differential)
-Calculus 2 (Integral)
-Physics 121 (Mechanics)
-General Chemistry
-College Composition
-Writing from Research
-Technical Writing
-Comparitive World Politics
-AP US History (Online)

Summer between Junior and Senior Year
-Calculus 3 (Multivariable)
-Physics 122 (E and M)
-Spanish 103 (Advanced First Year)

-Physics 224 (Thermo)
-Physics 225 (Modern Physics!)
-Astronomy 201 (Intro. Astronomy for Scientists and Engineers)
-US Government
-Differential Equations
-Linear Algebra
-Senior Health
-Team Sports
-American Literature

*Extracurriculars *

Taekwondo (11 Years!)
-National/International Champion all that jazz (junior olympics and us open)
-Trained at Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs for a short time
-Third degree black belt
-Past captain of junior and senior state teams

NASA SHARP (Summer 2005)
-Got to go to this awesome program last summer (summer after sophomore year). I don't think it needs much explanation but it was basically the coolest thing I've ever done.

SciTech in Israel (Tentatively Summer 2006)
-Applying to this research program at the Technion in Israel. Pretty excited, will get to help out with research and see Israel/ practice my Hebrew!

Volunteer (2-3 hours/week)
-Basically, I just volunteer at the elementary school in my free time so that I don't get bored. I teach keyboarding and individually tutor the cutest little third graders I've ever seen in math and reading. It's fun.

College Confidential/Facebook (too much time)
-haha, just kidding! I do spend a lot of time on CC and Facebook, but that probably won't be going down on my app!

Sorry about the very long post. I think I'm just really nervous because I've finally found a school I love and I want to go there sooooo bad. I'm not as worried about getting into UW because I'm instate, but I just feel Olin would be a much better fit! So...what are my chances?

Hi!

I'm going to be a freshman at Olin (I move in this Saturday!). You can get into Olin. The stuff you've done outside of class looks totally Olin-style to me. My advice would be to spend a lot of time on your essays, and get friends who write well to look them over and help you out. Make them creative, make them funny, answer the prompt.

Even after Candidates' Weekend I thought I would be rejected, but I could always go back and read my main essay and think, "There's no way they don't want the guy who wrote this."

Be yourself, be honest (that's kind of the same thing), and be passionate.

Good luck!

Your test scores seem to be way below the usual range of Olin (wasn't it 25th percentile having 1450/1600 SAT?). But other than that it looks good.

Technion, eh? I lived in Haifa for four years (that's where Technion is) and I hated it. Maybe you would like it better though. Go see university of Haifa sometimes. They're pretty cool too.

Community college is a reach, but with such impressive EC as

it is slight reach, but still I'd not rely on it too much; try applying to Hamburger U just to be safe.

Beside, everyone knows that the only normal major a person can take is Theoretical Physics.

[seriousness = true]You're in at UW :) [/seriousness]

Well you're in at UW-Seattle honors... lol
