Chances at Penn CAS/Brown/Columbia College/Dartmouth

Freshman at USC. 3.75 my first semester taking Micro (A), Calc 1 (B), Spanish 1 (A), General Education (A). Looking to transfer as an Econ major... not much in the way of ECs in college because it was my first semester... looking to join a business frat at SC. High School stats: 3.3 unweighted GPA, but school sends 30-35% kids to Ivy/Stanford/MIT. 2340 SAT 1, 34 ACT, 790 Math 2, 800 Chemistry. Pretty good leadership, but nothing extraordinary. Editor of newspaper, head of two volunteer groups, appeared on TV for quiz bowl show. No financial aid needed. Feedback would be awesome.Cool.

I’m surpised you weren’t accepted to any of those schools as a freshman, your test scores are great.

Why not apply to all the Ivies? You must get accepted somewhere.

It seems to me that you guys are just looking at his/her test scores. Granted they are fine, but that is not what would get him/her in at these places. I am not trying to say you don’t have a chance, but you need to know that these process can be pretty random.

Apply to those schools, and make sure your essays and recs are good, you have a reasonable chance of getting in somewhere at the schools you are looking at. However, if you can maintain that gpa for one more year and then apply as a junior transfer, your chances would be higher almost certain in my opinion because you have taken higher level classes.

The fact that you don’t need fin aid is also a good thing; a lot of schools like that.

You might also want to consider Chicago since you are an Econ major.
Good luck. you have pretty high chance so apply.

^^^^ What this person said. While you’re at it, you might want to check out Harvard. ;0

haha thanks for the input. brown is the only school out of those that I actually applied to last year. i’m going to give it a shot (maybe even Harvard and Yale) and see what happens. i’m really happy at USC though so i’m not even sure if it’s worth it to transfer. Anything you think I need to improve on? Also, would visiting help my chances?
