Chances at Penn State

Looking to get into University Park

Weighted GPA: 3.74
Unweighted GPA: 3.2
SAT: 1200
Major: Information systems and technology. Are my stats good enough for this major or should I apply DUS?

High school courses throughout my 4 years of HS

AP: 8 Honors: 8 G/T: 4

I also applied for summer session and I am turning in my application today since I know that it is better to do it earlier. But do you think I should wait and retake the SAT?

Extracurricular: I play basketball and lacrosse but out of school.

I think you are in a pretty good spot for IT. Especially if you put summer session as an option. I think you SAT is fine, but if you have time to take it again, it won’t hurt. Just make sure you have your application in AND COMPLETE by November 30. There is really no benefit to doing your application earlier than that because they usually don’t start doing the majority of their decisions until after that point. But your app has to be complete by November 30 to be in priority application.

Don’t forget to write the essay and do check “summer session” as a second choice but all in all, you’re good!

Do you think I should also put DUS instead of IT? I’ve heard mix opinions on whether my SAT score is good enough for not. I know that IT is a less competitive major but would that make any significant change? And If I were to put DUS would there be any drawbacks? I’m not 100% sure how DUS works.

There’s no drawback to applying DUS. Everybody has to meet the same benchmarks and take the same classes to get into their chosen major.

With my stats do you think I should put down DUS for my major or stick with IT since it is less competitive than say business or engineering?

Also I read somewhere that If I get rejected I can call admissions and ask to be considered to switch to DUS. Is this something that can be done?

Yes, indeed. If you’re rejected in January, you can call immediately and ask to be considered for DUS. However it means another round of consideration so you have to wait one more month to hear back.
