Hey all,
gonna be a freshman at UCI this fall, which follows the quarter system. i’m so far lined up to take a humanities lecture + discussion, general chem lec +dis, intro bio and intro history.i did terrible in hs gpa wise (3.2) though having taken a lot of ap/honors classes, but i had decent SAT scores (2200) and good ECs. i’d like to go to penn next year, so i’ll probably have to retake my SAT I. I have pretty compelling reasons for transfer, as penn offer a particular major (near eastern languages and civilizations or just middle eastern studies in general) that uci doens’t have. question is, is my courseload enough, granted that i can keep a high 3.9 or maybe 4.0 gpa to get me into penn? i made the mistake of not having really worked on my esssays last time, which is something i wo’nt do now. anyone care to give me feedback?

oh and im applying to college of arts and sciences, not wharton fyi

work really hard and keep your GPa high because it is hard to transfer into Upenn. But it is still possible. Which college specifically do you want to go to in UPenn? Some colleges are harder to get into than others.

yeah is CAS hard to get into in general?

o in that case than you might have a better chance if you apply to the college of arts and sciences than if you apply for Wharton.

Remember that penn is not easy to get into to begin with. I have to suppose that it is hard to transfer into CAS.

it might help to answer some of your questions about statistics.

k thanks a lot for your help theworld8905. i assume i should probably retake my SAT I and probably my SAT II ( 800 math, 730 us history and 630 bio)? anythign else you can think of to strengthen my chances?

pretend like you're applying to college all over again. cozy up to professors, do extracirrics, volunteer, etc

haha well the thing is i really wanna get in this year; and i don't know how early i should start? would now be good enough?

of course now is a good time

8 months ahead of time...sounds pretty good to me.
