Chances at Penn

Just wondering if I could get some insight as to my chances at Penn…
I am from a noncompetitive high school
Looking to attend the Annenberg School of Comm. and major in the sponsored undergrad comm. major
I have a 4.0
I rank 2nd in a class of 140
I am senior clas president, editor-in-chief of school newspaper, member of Honor Society, choral/jazz, several jobs and community service.
Several APs and Honors
Drawback- my first SAT score was only 1800. I plan to retake in Oct.
Anything would help. Thanks.

not a chance with SAT score at 1800.. if u bring it up to 2250 or so u may have a chance--> your ECs do not "wow" anybody

you don't technically attend annenberg as an undergraduate; as a communications major, your home school is the college, even though your courses are annenberg-instructed.

Actually, I think his ECs are pretty good...Editor-in-Chief is a serious committment, and Class President is impressive. That said, you really do need to raise your test scores

how many people who apply to penn are editor in chief? it's nothing special

its special if its an award winning yearbook/newspaper/website

thanks, it is a lot to handle...even though some say its 'nothing special' it really is a huge committment. But yeah, I'm just not a great test taker so i know i gotta raise my scores.

even though some say its 'nothing special' it really is a huge committment.

Something can a huge committment and not be that 'special' when compared to the activities of the applicant pool for Penn.

I know some high school newspapers that are very nicely put together and are published every week. I also know some newspapers at other hs that can simply be called a joke. To distinguish yourself, perhaps you may consider submitting samples of the work.

Think about it and show it to some other people (not friends, close family or teachers but others who don't necc know you.)

Are they impressed with the quality?

my high school is fairly new, and the newspaper has had its ups and downs depending on who's running it but now it is a pretty nice, monthly paper that covers events as current as the day before. I would say its quality and yes, we have gotten some positive feedback from people who have read it, not just family and friends. I probably will submit some.
