Chances at Pitt or PSU?

Chances at Pitt or PSU?
Hey!

So I really want to go to Pitt or PSU!
I am an Instate Resident, and white
My High School UW GPA is a 3.4 weighted 3.95
My grades were an upward trend. I did well junior year (3.7 uw, 3.95 w)
I took mostly honors classes throughout h.s and took AP US
I also go to a good public school

I am heavily involved in extra curricular activites
-select choir 4 years
-spring musical 4 years
-Interact community service 3 years
-newspaper 2 years
-jr. class committee
-9th grade soccer

I am CPR certifed and am a Lifeguard
I was selected to go to a leadership camp by my guidance counsler
I also intern with a state rep.

My SAT is low. I plan to retake in October
1640 total (600 W, 550 CR, 490 Math)
Also I did bad on the ACT(testing isn't my strong point)

I reeeeally want to go to either of these school and want a truthful answer to whether or not you think I can be accepted. Thanks!

p.s- I also like Temple, Indiana Bloomington, and University of Delaware, UGA and U of Arizona

You need to get those SATs up. Otherwise, you should be okay.

thanks! yeah…stupid sats. i am getting tutoring and retaking in october! wish me luck.

yeah your gpa is great but your sat’s and act scores are low, bring thoose up and i think you will get into pitt or psu.

If you get your SATs up by 100 points, you should be in a good place.
Your ECs are impressive.

UDelaware seem like a target school for you.

You probably should try to get your SATs up to at least 1720ish. You have a better shot at Penn state, but as a Pitt Applicant, and quiet possibly a future rival of Penn State, I think its a way better, cooler, nicer school.

if you raise your sat by about 300 points youll be good

@seniorxcbro

300 points is a lot to raise the score by, esp. since apps are due this fall/winter (depending on the school). That really only gives Kris4College one more try. (Being realistic, prep takes at least a month.)

I had a similar GPA, more EC’s and my SATs were about 100 or so points higher. I got into Pitt and PSU-University Park, but really sweated out the PSU acceptance. The problem is, you really should apply right away to Penn State (Sept. 1) which doesn’t give you any time to retake your SATs before you apply. You could amend your application with any subsequent scores, though.

Indicate that you are willing to attend summer session, that may help.

For 2009-10, Pitt’s middle 50% SAT (CR+M) range was 1160-1360 and the average GPA was 3.87. The only numbers we know for 2010-11 is that the SAT average 1274, up ten points from 2009 and 51% are in the top 10% of their high school class.

For 2009-10, PSU’s middle 50% SAT (CR+M) range was 1090-1300 and the average GPA was 3.55. 50% were in the top 10% of their high school class. I haven’t seen any preliminary number for PSU’s 2010-11 freshman.

Pitt superscores and PSU doesn’t superscore as far as I know. Pitt only looks at CR+M SATs, not sure about PSU. To be sure of getting into either’s main campus, you’ll need to get those test scores up some. The improvement trend is good on the GPA’s, although more AP courses would probably be nice. You’d get into to either system’s regional campuses if that was of any interest to you. Pitt has a rolling admissions policy, so the earlier you apply the better your chances. PSU has a modified rolling admissions which is similar as long as it is before some cutoff in November. Here is [a handy chart for determining your chances at PSU](http://admissions.psu.edu/info/counselors/bubble_chart06.pdf). Unfortunately, no such chart exists for Pitt.

you have a GREAT GPA, EC’s are ok, maybe you should add a leadership position, but yea you definetely should get that SAT Score up a bit

Volunteering can help 2 :)

Good luck :)

Your GPA is good. It could to pull you through to Penn State, given your good GPA and assuming you pull those SATs up to 1800 overall. And you have pretty good ECs too. Just try again…

Alternatively, try enrolling in other Penn State colleges and transfer to University Park later. Penn State Greater Allegheny is a good college that is quite rigorous and good, consider it if you can.

I like that cheer:

“We are… Penn State!”
