Chances at Pomona?

I've been looking at Pomona and love it- I've always loved SoCal, and I like the idea that it's competitive and has small class sizes.
Crowded school in a farming town- I live on a tree farm.
Hardest clasload possible- 3 APs and an honors class junior year, 4 APs this year.

What do you guys think? I don't really have a good idea about how hard it is to get into Pomona yet- it's one of the top LAC's, but it's not really a household name like Cornell or Princeton.

Oh hehe and I'm talking about Pomona College not Cal Poly Pomona

Key info needed: SAT I & II scores, AP scores.

Oh right- AP's: Calc-5 History-4 Chemistry-4, so AP Scholar, and 720V 780M SAT

You should have no problem getting in.

I think you're in at both Cal Poly and Pomona :)

Thanks guys, that's really reassuring. I'd never really heard of Pomona before I started researching colleges, so I didn't think it was very competitive until I saw the Princeton Review and USNews rankings, then I started getting nervous. But now I feel more confident about it again.

It's a great school and you're a great student. Seems like a match. Pomona has EXCELLENT grad school placement btw.

It's the 13th "most selective" according to PrincetonReview, which is higher than Dartmouth. They also have a 20% or so admission rate. You guys say it's a match, so does that mean I have higher than say a 60% chance of getting in, or is it pretty random and hard to predict, like at upper ivies?

Do you have contact with a coach? That would help a lot. You have great stats for Pomona but last year they had a lower then 20% acceptance rate and many kids with 1500's weren't accepted. There is no sure thing with Pomona so write a great essay, show interest and get great recommendations. They love leaders and students with a passion for learning, students that challenge themselves. Make sure you don't miss the interview deadline, that is important as well.Best of luck, it is an amazing school.

hate Freshman year, i got B's too

Yeah, and not only that, but they have a class from 8th grade on my transcript too, the only one I got a B in that year, and they say they can't take it off once it's been put on, and it's lowered my GPA.

Pomona will recalculate your GPA based on their own formula and will not even look at 8th grade! My S's recalculated was 3.98. He had a few B's in earlier FR, Sophomore grade. They took off all but core and basic subjects did not count PE etc. You will be fine. They look at how much you challenged yourself. Lots of kids with perfect GPA's did not get in if they took easy non challenging classes and those with much less then perfect got in because they took a challenging caseload.
