Chances at Princeton Admission

Hello, I'm a student who is set on going to Princeton University (probably more than I should be, but I'll explain more on that later). Here are my credentials that I think are relevant. If there's anything that I'm missing, please feel free to tell me.

GPA: 3.637 (unweighted)
Class Rank: Not Provided
High School: Smaller (250 class size) highly rated school district in very wealthy area. 3 Ivy Admissions last year.
ACT Score: 32 Composite(will retake 2x more, with focused studying. Did VERY poorly in science due to huge time mis-allocation)(I understand that I will need to take SAT I as well)
Course Load:
-Freshman: Enriched English, Honors Geometry, Honors Functions and Trigonometry (math taken through special test-in program at UMN), Civics, Accelerated Physics, Gym, Chinese II, Chinese III, Health

State: Minnesota

I can’t seem to edit and the other one was cut off early, so here is the full information.

Hello, I’m a student who is set on going to Princeton University (probably more than I should be, but I’ll explain more on that later). Here are my credentials that I think are relevant. If there’s anything that I’m missing (or anything that I have listed that’s irrelevant/hurts my cause), please feel free to tell me. I hope at least one person reads the who thing, even though I know that’s unrealistic.

Numbers:
Grade: 11 (semester 1)
GPA: 3.637 (unweighted)(slightly upward trend)
Class Rank: Not Provided
High School: Smaller (250 class size) highly rated school district in very wealthy area. 3 Ivy Admissions last year.
ACT Score: 32 Composite(will retake 2x more, with focused studying. Did VERY poorly in science due to huge time mis-allocation)(I understand that I will need to take SAT I as well)
SAT II Subject Tests: Math II: 780, Literature: 760
AP Scores: AP Computer Science: 3, AP Biology (3, looking to retake), AP Calculus AB [subscore]: 5 AP Calculus BC: 5

Course Load and Extracurriculars:
-Freshman: Enriched English IX, Honors Geometry, Honors Functions and Trigonometry (math taken through special test-in program at UMN), Civics, Accelerated Physics, Gym, Chinese II, Chinese III, Health, Band
-Sophomore: Enriched English X, American History, AP Biology, AP Computer Science, AP Calculus BC, Band, Honors Chinese IV
-Junior: (PSEO at University of Minnesota, 16 credits) Linear Algebra and Calc II composite (Same program as Freshman year), European History Before 1500 (1XXX level), Accelerated Freshman Chemistry (1XXX), Advanced Modern Chinese (3XXX) (Course levels given to provide context of difficulty). Currently have more than enough credits to graduate, not sure if colleges care about # of High School credits
Notable Extracurriculars: Band (not sure if it counts), Debate, Speech (2nd in District, National Qualifiers participant), Youth in Government (Like Model UN, except U.S. government)(Member of Distinction, leader), Siemens Competition entrant, other smaller national science competitions, Math Team (distinction), Wrestling, Rowing, will participate in Boys State and American Legion Oratorical Contest, Boy Scouts (Star scout),tutor (geometry, algebra, chemistry, trigonometry) AP Scholar
Employment: McDonald’s (yeah…)(well liked by superiors, maybe can write some essays if I’m really looking to diversify my recommendation sources)(full time during summer, 5 hrs./week during school), looking to intern at Columbia Language Camp, babysitting, tutor (geometry, algebra, chemistry, trigonometry)

Plans For Senior Year:
I am currently applying to be an exchange student to China next year. Should that not be an option, I am looking to continue PSEO at UMN, planning on taking Biological Chemistry, finishing Calculus, continuing Chinese. At the end of this year, I plan to take AP tests in World History, Chemistry, Biology (again) and possibly U.S. History if I have time to learn it on my own to the point where I can get a 4 or 5. Will take HSK Chinese test for fluency and likely 2 or 3 more goes on ACT/SAT. Plan to audit Calculus AB to have a credit for it.

Writings and Recommendations:
Essays: Confident, as I believe my essays were how I was admitted to PSEO, as my numbers were lower than others admitted
Recommendations: Fairly confident, have personal tutor for additional projects (science ones), teachers tell me they like that I work very very hard and participate

Demographics:
White Male
Income Bracket: Top 1%
State: Minnesota
Legacy: None that I’m aware of, probably somebody fairly distant
Hooks: None

Plan to Convey: Work-ethic, dreamer, life philosophy. I often choose a single goal that is auspicious and regardless of feasibility or whether it’s worth it, I chase it until it happens. As is probably self-evident, attending Princeton University is one such goal.

Self Perceived Strengths and Weaknesses:
-Strengths:
x Solid test scores
x Apparently OK essays
x Able to recover (personal stories I don’t want to write online)
x Well rounded
x Course rigor
x Good recommendations
x Interests and enthusiasm evident

-Weaknesses:
x No major accomplishments - not really google-able
x Sub-par GPA
x Nothing to set apart characteristically in terms of actions - yet
x Demographics
x Minimal to no legacy
x Not overly competitive high school
x Interests, although very strong, divided between Chinese,
Politics/Speech and science
x Lack Calculus AB credit, although have AP score

Questions:

 • What are my chances?
 • What needs to be done to get me above average admission rate?(even if it’s something crazy like be an Olympian, which obviously won’t happen)
 • If you are a current Princeton student, advice or contact?

Post this in the chance thread…

Being from Minnesota will help but your GPA is a death-blow IMO. Unless you pull of a 36 or 2350+ SAT. And even then it’s still unlikely.

OK, thank you for your advice. Is there any way that I can move my post?

try copy and paste ;)

Isn’t directly re-posting generally heavily frowned upon?

I’ve been here for less time than you have.
I don’t know.

Bump. I would really appreciate any more help. If anyone can give me some solid information/opinion, I’ll happily return the favor (if it’s wanted). Thanks! :)
