No, it really won't. Stanford is just as hard as Princeton, Harvard, etc.
UCLA and Cornell are exponentially easier to get into.
You must have a very, very poor school if you are vale with 1490 and last year had high 600's. I don't doubt that you work hard, but there is a level that only intelligence can pass, not hard work alone.
get your ACT to 29, if you want to be competitive.

^ ACT- 29? I would say for HYPS the ACT score should come to at least 33-36. Your SAT IIs are poor also so you might want to consider retaking them. If your test scores go up, I think you have a fair shot.

Can you spin the subpar high school into a nice narrative of being poor and overcoming adversity?

Otherwise, the ivies might be out of your reach--then again, you never know. But I wouldn't bet on it.

My parents' income would be classified as middle class, so I wouldn't be poor.

I could write a narrative explaining how I help my school and obstacles other family members have faced, such as my little brother's autism.

I could also include that helping my school through the creation of clubs, tutoring, and community service will make me a vital part of a college because I would be involved in various activities.

Using your little brothers autism?
Are you serious dude? Don't do this. This is something that he has to face not you and your parents have probably sufferened more from it than you. Thats a horrible excuse. It sounds like your trying to say " My test scores are not high because my brother has a disability so I was too busy crying." I advise against this. Now if you had something like dyslexia that would be a whole another story.

Those extracircular activities you describe are what everyone does.

I think you might be able to get into Cornell early but since you are middle class I advise against it. ED is for really really poor people or really really rich people. The middle class is always screwed.

Hope this helped.

Good idea. I won't use my other family members obstacles.

I think they would think that I would be using a sob story just to get in.

I think I'll write about music or helping improve my school.

I think you should just be honest. People who don't experience what life can be like for a family that includes a special needs child, sometimes do not understand. Often, you are up all night literally. It certainly has impacted my children's lives.

I honestly don't know how much test scores affect one's admissions decision, but let me just say that the average SAT score of Princeton Class of 2011 was around 2200.

that's it? lower than i thought it would be. who are these miraculous kids who get in with 2050s and the like? everyone i know who's gotten into HYPS has 2340+.

^ athletes, legacies, URMs etc. but I know a lot of people who have gotten in with low SAT scores but that's because they were amazing at something other than test taking.

Some people are just not good at test-taking. That certainly doesn't mean that they aren't smart. Personally, I got a 2300, but that was just because I studied quite a bit for the test. I would've gotten a significantly lower score if I just took it without preparing for it.

I took 2 practice ACTs. 1 of them was through petersons. The other one was through the ACT online course by the ACT.

I took the actual SAT in June and I got a 1640.

CR: 520
M: 630
WR: 490

Total: 1640

ACT practice test 1(petersons):

Composite: 27

English: 20
Math: 28
Reading: 31
Science: 28

Practice ACT 2(ACT online course):

Composite: 26

English: 23
Math: 27
Reading: 27
Science: 25

I guess that I can improve on the ACT more, even though my reading score was lower. Everything else was within the range of the first one.

Still well below PTON average.

640 in the math 2c and valedictorian???????? weirdo
dude ive been just 3 years learning english and I got a 630 in the reading...how can u get a 490? that means u made like 30 mistakes! 10 mistakes per section..wow

You get a 490 when you don't study. I didn't study for the SAT reasoning.

yeah i'm sorry to say, there's no way to get in if they see your SATs. princeton receives thousands of applications with SATs of 2250+. 1640 is miles below that. they reject most of the 2250+s anyway. it's not gonna happen. a 26 on the ACT might be acceptable if you're a Nobel Prize winner or something, but even so, you should be able to get better than a 490 without studying. a kid i knew who went to princeton didn't study on his PSAT and got a 710.

I said that I'm currently studying for the ACT. Currently, I'm going through the English portion. I'm still going over grammar and I have yet to reach rhetoric.

Hopefully, I'll get a high score on the test.

You wont make it to any of the top 20 colleges. SOrry. reality.

Edit:

I walked into the ACT's without knowing how many/what sections were on there. I got a 35.
Work your ass off freshman sophmore year and transfer or kill on the LSAT/MCats and go to a Ivy Law/Medical school.

it's just not going to happen.

even if you didn't study, you should have been able to get a decent score (above 2000)...your practice ACT scores are bad also.

work hard this summer and hope something miraculous happens and you get a 33+ on the ACT...
