I'm applying to a few colleges, and I was just wondering what my chances would look like. I would only get a little bit of financial aid, so I'm also wondering what my chances at merit would look like

GPA: Weighted: 3.9
Unweighted: About a 3.7 (not quite sure, my school did not tell)
Top 15% of class

SAT: 1880 Total, 1210 CR and M

ECs: Soccer (2 years)
Spring Track (4 years, 3 Varsity)
Winter Track (3 Years, 3 Varisty)
Co-President of STAND (4 years)
Student Council (2 years)
I dance 6 days a week, and have been captain for 3 years (large part of my life)

I am looking at:

Wheaton College
Providence College (legacy)
Fairfield University
Sacred Heart University
Fordham University
Muhlenberg College
UMass Amherst
Fordham University
Stonehill
Siena

Also, I have taken 5 AP classes, and all honors classes all throughout high school, except for religion which is not offered at any higher level

Providence: Safety (but only because of legacy)
Fairfield: Safety
Sacred Heart: Safety
UMass Amherst: Low match
Muhlenberg: Low match/Match
Fordham: Match
Wheaton: Low match
Stonehill: Safety
Siena: Safety

You can keep Providence as a safety but is there any one of the other schools (other than Fordham) you could change for a high match or a reach?

Thank you catrina! I was also thinking of applying to Skidmore, I just don’t apply for any financial need, but can’t afford to pay for college without any type of merit, so I’m not really looking at reach schools because I wouldn’t get merit. Should I look at more reach schools such as Holy Cross? And is there any chance of getting merit?

Thank you both! I was hoping to interview at almost all of the places to help increase my chances for merit! Hopefully I get a large merit package at one of the schools. Thanks for your input!

Also, if anyone could help estimate what I may get for merit from any of the above schools that would be very helpful! My goal is to try and get upwards of $14,000 a year.

Visited Fairfield today. The admissions rep stated that the “average” accepted student had a gpa of 3.5 (after Fairfield re-calculated the gpa using their own formula giving credit for honors and ap classes.) He went on to say that the top merit award is $22,000. You seem to be a top applicant so I would think you would get the upper-range of merit.

Have you visited the school? They encourage an interview and were very open answering questions regarding financial aid and merit-based aid in the information session. People asked very specific questions regarding merit aid and they were answered directly and I think people walked out with a good idea of the kind of aid they may expect. For example, one person asked what kind of student would get $22,000 and the rep answered the gpa is generally at least an A- and student possesses other criteria like strong activities. That seems to describe you doesn’t it? In any case, I would think you could get a good idea of your prospects by attending an information session and having an interview. Good luck.

Wheaton College: Match
Providence College: Safety
Fairfield University: Safety
Sacred Heart University: Safety
Fordham University: Match
Muhlenberg College: Low Match
UMass Amherst: Match
Stonehill: Match
Siena: Safety

Your SAT is a bit on the low side, so if you could retake that and score a tad bit higher it would definitely help you, especially if you’re hoping to be considered for merit aid. Other than that you have pretty good chances at all the schools you’re applying to. Best of luck!
