Chances at Purdue Engineering

I'm looking at getting into Purdue Engineering in the fall of 2013. I'm going to be a senior this year.

GPA: 3.997 (Got a B in a class I tested out of)
ACT: 30 (32 Math, 31 Science, 31 Reading, 27 English), retaking again with the writing portion.
Rank: Top 10 out of about 80
Classes:
English 4 years (3 Honors, 1 AP)
Science: 4 years (Earth Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics)
Math 6 classes (Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Trig/Pre-Calc, Online Calculus (through another school, mine doesn't offer it.), and taking AP Calculus AB this year (through same online school))
Technology Classes: 3 years, selective program, member of student board this year.
Band: 2 years
Foreign Language: 2 years

Activities Volleyball (9,10,11,12)
Basketball (9,10,11,12)
Softball (9) Manager (10,11,12)
Drama/Thespians 9,10,11,12
Volunteer Club 9, Officer 10,11,12
NAtional Honor Society 10,11,12
Bausch and Lomb Math and Science Award Junior year

I've also refereed basketball and umpired softball games since I was in 7th grade, taking the time to get certified by the organizations.

Hello. to start, Purdue is really hard to get into lol. There’s no “Engineering Application” at Purdue, so you would have to apply like everyone else who’s going to Purdue (understand?). Your GPA is really good and really competitive. When the admission officers review your application, they’re looking for qualities that make you stand out from the thousands of other students. When entering any engineering program, the college/university strongly recommends that the student take high level mathematics and science courses at their high school. They look at the required High School Courses(This will be explained later), overall grades, achievements/trends in their education, class rank, GPA, ACT/SAT, Personal background and etc. Here’s the full list: [Purdue University - Expectations for Freshmen](http://admissions.purdue.edu/Admissions_Criteria/Expectations_for_Fre.html). An ACT score of 30 is really good and competitive and it’s good to see that you’re retaking it to improve your score.

The High School Courses that are required for admission for Purdue are (these are the minimum):
**Math:
~ 8 Semesters (Here’s the list of math classes: [Purdue University - How to Apply](http://admissions.purdue.edu/Admissions_Criteria/Math_Courses.html))

**Sciences
~ 6 Semesters (For engineering, 2 of the semesters must be chemistry)

**English/Language Arts
~ 8 Semesters

**Foreign Languages
~ 4 Semesters ( You don’t have to take 4 of the same)

**Social Studies
~ 6 Semesters

Going by this, and looking at your schedule, it’ll help if you took AP Chemistry (or another Chemistry course if your school offers it), because you need 2 semesters of Chemistry. You have the other science requirements which is great, but the 2 semesters of chemistry is required for students who wish to enter the engineering school. Also it’s really beneficial to have some AP courses under you belt, because Purdue really looks into this. These are the basic for admission to Purdue, so you really have to step up your game Senior year, (take AP Chemistry lol).

Your EC’s are really good, and it seems like you’re really interested in sports by your amazing involvement and I really admire your math and science award. It’s good to have EC’s that bring out your leadership qualities which all colleges/universities love. I don’t you if you have any officer positions, but having them make your application competitive. It’s good to participate in clubs, and by having that leadership position is the icing on the cake.

Overall, do well your Senior year, and I hope you bring up your ACT score :). Good Luck and keep on doing well and hope for the best.
