Chances at Reed College, MIT, Caltech, RISD, Rice and Brown U...

GPA: 3.8

SAT:

Math: 701
Reading:752
Writing: 723

I took 4 AP classes in all.

EC's: African Dance company, Math team, I made a walk to raise money for Tibetan children, Softball...

So, tell me what you think...!

I go to a charter performing arts school that is pretty good, by the way.

SAT scores are always divisible by ten.

Oh, well, whatever- I dont have them in front of me, I was just estimating.

So-- I guess they are:
Math: 700
Reading:750
Writing:720

do you know your class rank? and what is your race.

I am white and my school doesn’t rank, but I would estimate that I am in the top 10%

Or, possibly, the top 15%

many people with grades and EC’s much better than you don’t get in.
However, people with worse grades and EC’s have gotten in.
I think i is half grades, half pure luck
i think the admissions office is in a better mood than other times

In General: Your GPA is impressive; that’s a strong boost. Your SATs are all about 700, which is another boost. Neither are perfect, but they both qualify you for top schools; you’d never get rejected on an objective stats level. My only quibble is your ECs; I don’t see a really DEEP passion, although you do have some pretty interesting things you’re involved with. Did you\will you emphasize your passions in your essay or other subjective info?

Also, how does 4 AP classes relate to the toughest courseload your school offers? How many AP\Pre-AP\Honors classes does the best student you know in your school take, and how do you compare to him\her?

Reed College-Match; You’re at or above their middle 50% for every objective metric, so you should have a good chance. I don’t know much about their admissions office there.

MIT-high reach; MIT is incredibly selective, and I don’t get “serious research interest in science” from your ecs, which is something that MIT looks for. Better chances if you do display the research or at least heavy math-science interest in your essay (or some other way).

Caltech RISD-high reach; maybe slightly easier (admissions wise) than MIT, maybe not. Either way, proving that math-science-research interest is key.

Rice-High match; I don’t know a WHOLE lot about Rice, but I think I remember its a transcript-heavy school as far as admissions goes, which could be good for you

Brown U-Reach-Slight Reach; You’ve got a decent chance here, esp. with strong GPA and SATs.

I am hoping to major in Architecture as a Masters, if that helps.

i think u suck and will never get in. haha, just kidding jazzy.
u will deff b the first person they let in fo sho babez.

“I think i is half grades, half pure luck”

Luck and mood are not involved. At selective schools, every decision is discussed, sometimes again, and again, and again. If you help meet the needs of the school, you might be admitted.

My most important EC’s are difinitely the African Dance Company and the Math Team. I have been part of my Company for 6 years and they are practically family to me. It is really time consuming with performance inside and out of school, so that would definitely be a deep intrest to me. And my math team is not so much about the team, but about the math-- I am one of those people that when i get bored i find a math problem to do and it is alway the homework i do first.

Our school doesn’t offer too many AP courses, I think 7 in all and they are all for junior and senior year. The top student in my school is probably in almost all college courses, because our school doesnt offer much, but i didn’t take any college classes.

Anyone else with an opinion…oh and the eleventh post was my friend who had my computer.

I agree that your stats are a match for Reed, but that’s just a start; Reed is a quirky fit school. Reed has an active dance group (our D is part of it), so that might be a hook.

You have to be the first person I have ever heard of who has MIT, Caltech, and RISD on the same college list.

Yeah…There is a side of me that wants to only think of the technical and do twelve thousand number math problems, and then there is another side that wants to go to a school with a bunch of liberal hippies, and in the end it is going to be really hard to choose…

something is fishy about jazlyntrue;s posts. at the same time, she posts about getting into a boarding prep school and posts the same scores for her SSATs(prep school testing) and SATs. & she didnt know they were divisible by 10. She doesn’t seem to know much about colleges seeing she doesn’t have a consistent list, I think she is just a prep school hopeful making crap up to see her future chances at some school. She is a freshman in highschool!
